ODDS ANALYSIS

The Blue Jays have played themselves right into the thick of the AL East race by winning eight straight games, the final six coming during a perfect homestand. Toronto scored 57 times during their streak and leads the Majors in runs scored. The over is 4-2-2 during the eight games and 17-10-2 in Toronto’s 29 road games. The teams split their six earlier meetings with each winning twice at home

All the good feelings from a three-game win streak and a dramatic win over the Athletics on Sunday quickly dissipated after the Red Sox dropped the first two at Baltimore scoring two times in Wednesday’s loss for their first runs in that series. The under is 7-3 in Boston’s last 10 games and 17-12 at Fenway Park. The Sox cashed the under in each of Joe Kelly’s last two starts and is 5-1 in his last six outings.

PITCHING MATCHUP

Drew Hutchison (5-1, 4.91 ERA) bounced back from a rough outing to pick up a win against the Astros on Saturday, after allowing one run over 6.1 innings. He held them to six hits with a walk while striking out five.

Hutchison tossed five innings of one-run ball in a home win over the Sox on May 9, but was touched for six earned on nine hits at Boston on Apr. 28 and carries a 5.74 ERA over 15.2 innings in three starts at Fenway Park.

Joe Kelly (2-4, 5.40 ERA) pitched well enough to hold onto his rotation spot after tossing six innings of one-run ball on Sunday in a win over the Athletics. It was his first win since his opening start of the year on Apr. 11 and he’s given up just one earned run in each of his last two starts covering 11 innings.

Kelly surrendered seven walks and six runs over 5.2 innings in a 7-1 loss to the Jays on May 9 and has given up 11 runs in 11.2 innings against them in two starts this season.

QUOTE TO NOTE

“This lineup is unbelievable from top to bottom. You just try to get on base for the guy behind you, and we’re able to get those big hits. It shows when you win ballgames.” – Toronto’s Justin Smoak following the Jays’ 7-2 win over Miami on Wednesday, their eighth straight

LIVE BETTING or SITUATIONAL BETTING

The Toronto Blue Jays extended two streaks on Wednesday. Their 7-2 victory over Miami was their eighth in a row. And not only that, it was their 18th straight win without a save. That’s right. They haven’t had a save from their bullpen since May 4. That was lefty Brett Cecil’s second save in this third save opportunity of the season. The Jays are 18-16 since but Cecil hasn’t had a save opportunity in that time, even though he took over the closers role in late April. There were three walk-off wins and three complete game wins by their starters during the saveless stretch, and the Jays have a no-quit offense that’s capable of piling on runs and extending leads. Toronto leads the Majors in runs with 321 following Wednesday’s win.

PROP TALK

Josh Donaldson has been everything the Jays envisioned when they swung a deal with Oakland in the offseason to get him. Donaldson had his 12-game hitting streak snapped Saturday and that just pissed him off. He had two hits in each of the four games since then with a pair of homers and five RBIs and is hitting .353 during the Jays’ eight-game win streak. He cracked his team-high 17th home run of the season Wednesday and is the top run producer on a team that leads baseball in scoring. He’s set up nicely to drive in some runs against Joe Kelly and the Sox and comes through.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

The Jays have a potent offense and going against a struggling Joe Kelly in Fenway Park is a wonderful opportunity for them to pad those numbers. The Sox struggling offense doesn’t leave much room for error from the pitching staff and, unfortunately, they haven’t been able to pick up the slack. Good news for Boston is that Toronto starter Drew Hutchinson is ineffective on the road and the Sox lit him up at Fenway Park for nine hits and six runs there on Apr. 28. Bad news is the Sox lost the game 11-8. We see much of the same with Toronto outscoring the beantowners.
