Boston Red Sox at New York Mets betting odds on FOX Sports 1 Saturday

The Amazin’s are continuing to streak away.

The New York Mets are up to 70-56, but they know if they want to win the NL East this year, they’re going to need to put aside teams like the 58-69 Boston Red Sox whom they will face on Saturday.

ODDS ANALYSIS

The Mets are now playing .667 ball here at Citi Field at 42-21, and that's why they’re up 12.88 units on the season. They draw a Boston team in this one which has had all sorts of problems hitting the ball and pitching of late.

The Sox are only 58-69, but the real damage has come to bettors at -16.33 units.

PITCHING MATCHUP

Jacob deGrom would probably be in the discussion for the Cy Young Award on most other years, but this time around, he won't even get a sniff thanks to Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke out in LA.

In spite of the fact that he allowed seven runs, six of which were earned in his last start, deGrom still sports a svelte 2.29 ERA and a 12-6 record. Don’t let that blip on the radar from last week scare you, though. deGrom had pitched seven straight quality starts with a sub-1.00 ERA in his previous seven outings.

Joe Kelly has caught some fire over his last four starts, going a perfect 4-0 for the Sox with a 1.86 ERA. He's still walking too many batters at 41 in 113 innings, and the fact that he has allowed 14 homers, including one in three of those four starts, is a concern for sure.

QUOTE TO NOTE

"I don't think I located one pitch. All the balls were down the middle, and they were getting hit hard. I have to be better than that." – Mets starter Jacob deGrom after allowing seven runs in a shockingly bad result against the lowly Phillies his last time out

SITUATIONAL BETTING

The Red Sox have a disaster in the bullpen, and they know it. Torey Lovullo, who took over as the acting manager of this team, really has no clue what he's doing with this bullpen.

On Tuesday in Chicago, poor Wade Miley was left for dead in seven innings, allowing 13 hits and a walk, and because he was left in so long, he was saddled with the loss.

Would you blame Lovullo, though? There isn't a man in that Sox pen with anything anywhere near a 3.00 ERA.

PROP TALK

Young Michael Conforto only has 70 at bats under his belt in the bigs, but he’s proving to be the real deal. He has three homers already in that span, which would project out to 24 over a full 550 at bat season, and his .271 average and 19/10 K/BB ratio shows a good eye at the plate as well.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

The Mets are going to be super chalky in this game, but they deserve to be. Kelly can't keep his current pace up, and advanced stats say he isn't much better now than he was at the outset of the season when he looked like a gas can.

deGrom will continue to start and get back to his ways, and if he throws another game where he allows something like one run in seven frames, the Mets will chalk up another victory.
