Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees betting odds on the MLB Network Thursday

Anytime the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox square off with one another, you know that fireworks are capable of flying. These two teams are 59-45 and 47-59 respectively, and are separated by over 23 units for bettors, but Boston is always going to have a shot against the men in pinstripes.

ODDS ANALYSIS

Boston's woes are just continuing this season. The team is out 19.24 units and is 12-games below .500, and its record on the road has been atrocious at 20-31.

The Sox have played just seven games on the road since the All-Star break, and they sport a 0-7 record with 7.00 units of profits lost by bettors.

PITCHING MATCHUP

CC Sabathia has pitched basically a full season's worth of games against the Red Sox in his career, and he's only 11-12 with a 4.63 ERA to show for his work. He did pitch well against them in his last outing, allowing just two runs over six frames, but Sabathia is still only 4-8 with a 5.54 ERA, and he's lucky to be holding down a spot in the rotation.

Rookie Eduardo Rodriguez had his first taste of this rivalry last month at home, and he did his part to get a win, allowing two runs over 6.1 innings.

The southpaw is getting an extra day of rest after he labored through five innings against the Rays in his last start to the tune of a career-high 110 pitches. Fatigue though, could still certainly be an issue.

QUOTE TO NOTE

"It's the whole team. Sometimes the top of the order wasn't doing anything, and then the bottom wasn't doing, but this whole road trip, it was top to bottom, everybody was doing the job, everybody was getting on base, everybody was scoring, so that's what we want. Just keep it up." – Yankees infielder Didi Gregorius on a road trip in which the Bronx Bombers went a solid 6-4

SITUATIONAL BETTING

Here come Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller again.

The Yankees have arguably the best eighth inning/ninth inning combination in the league for relievers, and these two have been out of this world of late.

Miller has allowed just one run and four hits in his last 8.2 innings. Betances has worked 11 straight scoreless innings and has given up a total of three hits and four walks in that stretch.

PROP TALK

David Ortiz has started to get his bat going for the Sox, though clearly, it's too little, too late for the rest of their season.

Still, the DH is batting .368 in his last 10 games with four home runs and 14 RBIs, and it would be foolish to bet against him when facing a team he’s historically murdered.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

We like Boston's chances in this one. The Red Sox aren't very good, and the Yankees have been dominating at home, but Rodriguez could have his way against this strong lineup.

As long as the older Boston bats like those of Ortiz and Pablo Sandoval continue to hit as they have been, the Sox should get rid of Sabathia early, which would be the key to making sure Betances and Miller don't play a role in this one.
