Detroit Tigers at Los Angeles Angels betting odds on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball

TIGERS-AT-ANGELS-2-MLB-SEASON-2015

The Detroit Tigers (28-20 SU, +5.46 Units) have had absolutely no luck against the Los Angeles Angels (23-24 SU, -4.18 Units), losing 13 of their last 16 games against them. The men from Motown will look to break that skid on Sunday night in Anaheim.

ODDS ANALYSIS

David Price has been on fire of late for the Tigers. He hasn't gotten all of the run support in the world, and he hasn't even gotten great work out of his bullpen, but the right combination of great pitching and good fortune has watched him produce six straight victories for his team. He's one of the best money pitchers in the bigs this year with 8.17 units of profits all by himself.

PITCHING MATCHUP

Matt Shoemaker had an awesome start against the Padres earlier in the week, but he has been far too inconsistent for our liking. He’s allowed at least five runs three times in his last seven starts, but has allowed just one run or fewer in two of his last three.

The common factor in these games though, is that he doesn't walk batters. Not issuing free passes to these Detroit hitters is key, and with just six walks in his last six outings, those bases on balls aren't concerning.

Price hasn't been quite as amazing this year as we have gotten used to, but he is still one of the best pitchers in the game. The fact that his ERA is still just 2.97 even though he had that one atrocious start against the Yankees in which he allowed eight runs over 2.1 innings is encouraging for Detroit backers in the long run.

QUOTE TO NOTE

"If it were up to one guy, we've got as good a one guy as anybody. It takes a lineup to score runs, not one guy." – Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto referring to the fact that Mike Trout is one of the Top 10 hitters in the league yet the team isn't scoring enough runs to consistently win games

SITUATIONAL BETTING

The Tigers have become relatively slow starters of late. They haven't scored a run in the first inning in seven of their last nine games overall. Part of Shoemaker's problems at the start of this year have been allowing runs in the early frames, but if Detroit can't get on base the first time through the lineup, it might be in a lot of trouble in this one.

PROP TALK

The one thing we will say about both Shoemaker and the Angels' bullpen is that they give up far too many fly balls. Against the Tigers, that could be devastating. Keep a particularly close eye on Miguel Cabrera in this one, as he is very likely to put the ball in play three or four times. It'll be tough for him to not get at least one hit in this game, and he could explode as well.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

The Tigers are clearly the better of these two teams, and their pristine 15-8 road record shows that they can get the job done when they aren't in Motown as well.

Shoemaker is probably going to end up getting toasted in this game by a team with huge run-scoring potential when the ball gets up in the air, and Price should be able to take care of the rest on his own without much help.
