Detroit Tigers at New York Yankees betting odds on the MLB Network Friday

The New York Yankees (34-30 SU, +0.84 Units) are back in the Bronx, and they're hoping to snap a skid of five out of six games.

They've got a tough task on tap against the Detroit Tigers (34-31 SU, +0.14 Units) in Friday’s series opener.

ODDS ANALYSIS

The Yankees are in poor form right now, and playing at home hasn't done them many favors this year either. Sure, they’re 16-11 SU and have netted a small profit as the hosts, but they’re just 13-14 against the run-line and have ended up playing a lot of one-run games as a result.

PITCHING MATCHUP

The Yanks haven't made the formal announcement yet about their weekend rotation, but if all goes according to form, Adam Warren should get the baseball.

Warren had pitched into the seventh inning in five straight starts for the Yanks before having a tough outing against the Orioles last time out. Warren just wasn't locating pitches well and was stuck going deep into counts. As a result, he only lasted 4.2 innings.

After throwing just 56 of his 92 pitches for strikes in his last start, Warren will look for a little more control in this one.

Alfredo Simon has continued to be an excellent first half pitcher. Last year prior to the All-Star break, the righty went 12-3 with a 2.70 ERA for the Reds. This year, with the All-Star break closing in quickly, he is 7-3 with a 2.58 ERA.

Simon though, still doesn't do anything phenomenally well. He isn't an elite strike thrower, and his 56/24 K/BB ratio isn't anything to write home about. He does induce more ground ball outs than fly ball outs, which will come in handy in the Bronx, but that doesn't preclude him from allowing home runs.

QUOTE TO NOTE

"I would like it to stop. I can't put a finger on it. We've played good baseball, and right now, we haven't played as well as we want." – Yankees manager Joe Girardi when asked about the roller coaster pattern which his team has been on this year

SITUATIONAL BETTING

If you were worried about Dellin Betances taking over as the Yankees closer, you probably should put those fears to rest. He’s thrown three straight perfect innings, the last of which came against the Orioles after replacing the injured Andrew Miller at the back ends of games.

Betances now owns a svelte 0.27 ERA, and is making a strong case to be an All-Star this year.

PROP TALK

Boy is Miguel Cabrera hot right now! Speaking of All-Stars, Miggy is sure to be one yet again this year, knowing that he is batting .345 with 14 home runs and 48 RBIs. He has knocked in at least one run in five straight games heading into play on Wednesday, a very good sign for this game as well.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

We expect to see a lot of runs in this game, and those runs could be scored early. An over of about four in the first five innings might be a particularly strong bet, knowing that the big bats in both lineups will get at least two, if not three cracks at Simon and Warren, both of which are prone to big innings.

In the end, we would take the Tigers if they were short underdogs in this one, but the over looks to be the better play to us.
