The Miami Marlins continue to make a surprising run at the playoffs, as they currently sit in the second wild card spot. The New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals are on their tail and there is little margin for error. The Marlins aim to pick up a big win when they face off against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, August 10th, 2016, at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida. The Giants have the better pitcher on the hill but Miami has the home field advantage so the odds could be close in MLB betting.

ODDS ANALYSIS
The Marlins have a 59-52 record on the season and are unlikely to catch the Washington Nationals for the National League East title. However, Miami is in good position to grab a wild card as it is currently slotted in the second spot.
The San Francisco Giants are 63-48 on the year, two games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. The Giants are the favorites to hang onto that spot and claim the divisional title, which would set them up well for the playoffs.
PROBABLE PITCHERS
The Marlins are scheduled to send David Phelps to the mound. He is 5-5 on the season with a sparkling 2.45 ERA, but that has come almost exclusively in relief. Starting pitching is a different animal so it will be interesting to see how he handles it.
The Giants will counter with Jeff Samardzija. He is 9-8 with a 4.40 ERA. Samardzija was signed to a big-money deal in the offseason but has not lived up to that contract. Samardzija has the potential to be dominant but has not shown it all season.
LIVE BETTING
The Giants and Marlins both play in cavernous home ballparks so their hitting has actually been pretty good based on the degree of difficulty. Miami is led by Christian Yelich, who is batting .324 with 11 homers, 63 RBIs and an .894 OPS. Giancarlo Stanton is one of the most powerful hitters in the majors and is batting .242 with 24 homers and 65 RBIs. Second baseman Dee Gordon won the batting and stolen base titles a season ago but was suspended for half of this season. He recently returned and gives the team a boost atop the lineup.
San Francisco’s lineup includes catcher Buster Posey, who is hitting .290 with 12 home runs, 52 RBIs and an .823 OPS. Brandon Belt has also been good with a .285 average, 13 homers and 55 RBIs. The Giants don’t have a ton of power bats in the lineup but feature a lot of players who know how to get on base, which has helped the group be successful.
QUICK PICK
The Marlins have a slight advantage offensively, but much of this game will come down to the effectiveness of the starting pitchers. Samardzija is more decorated but has struggled this season. Phelps doesn’t have the same type of stuff but has excelled in his relief role and will aim to put together a nice start. This is an intriguing matchup and will have playoff implications in MLB odds.
