MLB Betting Online: The New York Mets made it to the World Series a season ago, but are in danger of missing the playoffs in 2016. They need a hot streak down the stretch to either catch the Washington Nationals in the National League East or earn one of the wild card berths. They hope to capture a pivotal game over the New York Yankees on Monday, August 1st, 2016, at Citi Field in New York, New York on ESPN Monday Night Baseball. The Mets have a fantastic pitching staff but are sending unproven right-hander Logan Verrett to the mound, so the odds could be tight in MLB gambling.

ODDS ANALYSIS
The Mets have a 53-48 record in 2016 and sit in third place in the N.L. East behind the Nationals and the Miami Marlins. They haven’t been as successful as a season ago as their elite pitching staff has dealt with injuries and bouts of ineffectiveness, but the team is still just 1.5 games out of the second wild card spot. If the Mets can put it together, they can still make a run at the playoffs.
The New York Yankees are 52-49 on the year. They are also within striking distance of the postseason, but have outplayed their run differential substantially, and the front office has trouble believing the team can catch those ahead of it in the standings. The team traded closer Aroldis Chapman to the Cubs and has many high-priced veterans who are no longer playing at adequate levels. While the Yankees are hanging around .500, they likely don’t have the firepower to make the postseason in 2016.
PROBABLE PITCHERS
The Mets will send Logan Verrett to the mound. He is 3-6 with a 4.12 ERA this season with a 1.41 WHIP and only 51 strikeouts in 74 innings. While New York is known for its starting pitching, Verrett is a fill-in who does not have the same ability as the regular starting hurlers.
The Yankees will counter with veteran left-hander C.C. Sabathia. The former star struggled the past few years, but has been better this year, with a 6-8 record and a 3.95 ERA. Sabathia no longer has dominant stuff, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see both of these offenses play well in this game.
LIVE BETTING
Neither team has a great offense. The Mets are led by Yoenis Cespedes, who is batting .297 with 22 home runs and 58 RBIs, but there hasn’t been a ton of support around him. The injury to David Wright was a big one and the offense doesn’t have a lot of depth.
The Yankees have a lot of familiar names, but players like Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira are slowing down as they enter the twilight of their careers. Carlos Beltran is one player who has managed to hold off Father Time, as he is batting .305 with 21 homers and 62 RBIs on the season. The Yankees may have to reboot the offense after this year as many of the veterans are no longer getting it done.
QUICK PICK
While the Mets might have a better team overall, the presence of Verrett on the mound is a tad frightening. Even though the Yankees’ lineup isn’t as intimidating as it once was, there are still some good hitters in it. The Yankees have a veteran on the mound in Sabathia, who may be able to keep up his solid season against the Mets and help the team to the road victory in MLB gambling.
