MLB Betting Online: The San Francisco Giants are one of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball and should be favored to keep that momentum going when they face cellar-dwelling Atlanta on Wednesday, June 1st, 2016. Even though the Braves will play at home at Turner Field, the Giants have World Series aspirations while Atlanta is in rebuilding mode. San Francisco will be expected to capture this matchup in MLB gambling.
The Giants have won 18 of their past 20 games, zooming to the top of the National League West with a record of 32-20, four-and-a-half games ahead of the second-place Los Angeles Dodgers. Those two teams figure to battle for the divisional crown and the Giants will aim to stay ahead as the season moves forward. San Francisco has yet to announce its starting pitcher for the game, as regular starter Matt Cain was recently placed on the disabled list. His replacement is expected to be Albert Suarez, who 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA for the Giants in relief this year and had an ERA of 2.98 in 27 starts in Double-A in 2015. Suarez is a bit of a wild card in this game, and the Braves hope to take advantage of his inexperience. The Giants are led offensively by Hunter Pence, who is hitting .304 with seven homers and 36 RBIs. Brandon Belt has an on-base percentage of .412 and an OPS of .882 while Buster Posey is batting .280 with seven homers and 24 RBIs.
The Braves have the worst record in the major leagues at 14-35, which isn’t a surprise. Most of the team’s top talent has been traded away in the last couple years as the franchise focuses on the future. The team’s best player is Freddie Freeman, who is hitting .255 with eight homers and 15 RBIs. Other than him, there are very few impact players, as Atlanta has several journeymen manning the offensive positions as the team’s young prospects get experience in the minors. Atlanta has 156 runs on the season, which is by far the fewest in the major leagues. The Braves’ best hope is to get a good outing from starting pitcher Williams Perez. He is 2-1 on the season with a 3.72 ERA, although low strikeout numbers leave questions as to whether he can sustain the solid performances. It could be a tough task to keep the Giants at bay in this matchup. Perez is one of Atlanta’s pitchers who is looking to carve out a role moving forward, and this will be a tough test for him.
While both teams are sending young pitchers to the mound, the Giants have the more potent lineup. Players like Belt, Pence and Posey are top-tier hitters and could have good success against a pitcher like Perez. While Suarez has yet to prove himself at the MLB level, this is a nice opportunity against a soft Braves offense. Cain is expected to rejoin the rotation when he returns from the disabled list, but Suarez hopes to gain the trust of the coaching staff with a good performance provided he is the one chosen to take the mound. The Giants didn’t start quickly in 2016, but have really picked it up of late. This is a favorable road series as San Francisco aims to increase its lead in the National League West in MLB gambling.
Quick Pick MLB Odds: While the Giants aren’t sending one of their better pitchers to the mound, their lineup should be able to do the heavy lifting in this one and lead San Francisco to victory over Atlanta.
