Last week, the Boston Red Sox swept a three game series at Fenway Park over their rivals from the Bronx, the New York Yankees. Now, the scene shifts to Gotham and the question is whether or not the Yankees can get it done in front of their hometown faithful.

ODDS ANALYSIS

Boston swept the series against New York and outscored the Yanks 20-9 in the three games. The Red Sox were only decent sized favorites in one of those three games, the Sunday night game, but covered the other two games with ease as well.

The Red Sox have been hitting well thus far this season and are averaging over five runs a game. The catalyst behind much of this offensive production is David Ortiz who has started the season strong with six home runs in just 90 at-bats and is putting up a 1.037 OPS. He went yard on Wednesday night against the White Sox as well in what was the 509th home run of his career. F

or a player that has traditionally gotten off to slow starts, this has been a big boost for the Red Sox’ pennant hopes.

While Boston has the best offense in the American League, with 13 more runs than the next closest team, the Yankees plate the least runners in the AL. New York has tallied 46 less runs than Boston and that’s a big part of why the Yankees are in the cellar of the AL East.

New York’s bats have started to pick up recently, but this team needs a lot more run support. With Alex Rodriguez now on the 15 Day DL, the Yankees will now turn to Carlos Beltran and Brian McCann to be the power in the lineup. McCann has nailed four home runs this season and Beltran has racked up three. Both these players are past their prime, but need to hit better if the Yanks are to turn this around.

PROBABLE PITCHERS

Steven Wright will head to the mound for the Red Sox on Sunday night. Wright has been incredibly unlucky early in the season, with a 2-3 record in spite of the fact that he has a 1.14 WHIP and a 1.67 ERA. Wright has taken the mantle from Tim Wakefield as the team’s resident knuckleballer and while he was expected to perform well, his numbers at this point are surprising.

The one thing that he needs to improve upon are his issued walks. Wright has walked 15 batters in just over 32 innings of action and those runners he’s put on base have come back to haunt him. Unlike most knuckleball pitchers, he has been able to limit the home run as well in surrendering just one home run through five starts.

The Yankees will send Luis Severino to the bump. Severino has failed to register a win yet this season, which is a big problem for a player that the Yanks were counting on to be a future star of the franchise. He’s been rocked in his five starts, opponents are hitting .333 against him and he has a 6.31 ERA.

There are some that are calling for Severino to be sent to the minors and if he gets hammered again by Boston on Sunday he will likely be sent down.

LIVE BETTING SCENARIO

Severino has shown a lot of potential, but he has had issues with his control. He is missing his spots and alarming batters at a very high rate. Boston is the best hitting team in the AL and should be able to jump all over him.

Grab the Red Sox early on the readjusted run-line if he’s somehow able to go through the order once unscathed.
