Division leaders are set to engage in some interleague action by McCovey’s Cove late Tuesday night when the AL East leading Red Sox and their power offense run up against a surging Giants club that finally returns home after an extended roady.

ODDS ANALYSIS

The Red Sox check in as the fifth best bet in the league and tied for first place with the Baltimore Orioles heading into the tenth week of the season. They’ve put $451 of betting profit in their supporter’s pockets by putting forth winning records both at home (19-12) and on the road (14-12). John Farrell’s squad has however been on a bit of a decline in dropping four of their last five to the Blue Jays and Orioles. The team stands 5-2 versus the National League to date.

At 35-23 overall, the Giants sit only behind the Cubs and Rangers in terms of betting profit for the season. Most of it has been made on the road where the teams logged wins on 19 of 31 occasions ($614), but Bruce Bochy’s troops also sit five games over .500 in front of the hometown faithful ($893). San Fran dropped its only interleague matchup played to date after dropping two of three to another AL East rep – the Toronto Blue Jays.

PROBABLE PITCHERS

Rick Porcello signed a gargantuan $82,500,000 deal to pitch for the Boston Red Sox a couple years back. While his 4.00 ERA is second best on the team, that really isn’t saying much. He has however gone 7-2 overall, but that has more to do with the fact that his offense has given him an average of 6.3 runs per game to work with than his ability to keep opposing offenses from scoring. He’s been at his worst on the road where his ERA jumps up to 4.86, and he’s conceded 38 hits through 37 innings of work.

Albert Suarez will be called upon for the second time in this one to fill in for the injured Matt Cain. After tossing five innings of 3 ER ball in his first extended outing of the season, he went another five innings against the Braves in his starting debut but hardly shined in giving up another 3 ER while walking a pair and striking out four with some blazing heat. Boston is the last team you want to test with the fastball however, so the possibility of a really short stint is extremely high in this matchup.

LIVE BETTING

Save for closers that simply know how to seal the deal, neither of these bullpens are much to write home about. With Suarez not fully stretched out to go any sort of distance and Porcello failing to reach the seventh inning in any of his last five trips to the bump, a wager on the second half over will likely be in order especially if each starter’s pitch counts are out of control half way through the game.

QUICK PICK

The absence of Hunter Pence is going to hurt San Francisco’s offense over the next couple months, but the team is used to playing without their All-Star right fielder due to him succumbing to the injury bug numerous times the last couple seasons. Porcello has surrendered at least 4 ER in each of his last three road starts, and has been ripped apart by the Giants in the past for 8 earned and a .349 batting average against through 10 combined innings over two starts.

This will be a bullpen game no doubt for the Giants with Boston likely getting to Suarez early and often. He just doesn’t have the arm strength or experience to combat a Boston offense that will likely come at him in waves. With that the case, look for the scoreboard operators to be working overtime in this one.

MLB Odds: Red Sox 9, Giants 5
