ODDS ANALYSIS
It was quite the roller coaster ride for Robin Ventura’s squad throughout the first half of the season. Chicago burst out of the gates to snag a comfy division lead, but reality set in the second month of the season, and their lead was all but erased. They split their final two series played at home before the All-Star break taking two of three from the Yankees, but then dropping their final series in disappointing fashion to the Braves. They’ll begin the second half on the road where they’ve played .500 ball to date for a $182 return on investment.
With Mike Trout the team leader and the franchise two seasons removed from winning 98 games, it was really tough to predict the kind of season the Halos put forth throughout the first half of 2016. It was however widely known that the team lacked a solid starting staff, and that’s been one of Mike Scioscia’s biggest bugaboos thus far. The unit has produced a grand total of 23 quality starts which has put all kinds of pressure on an offense that averages 4.5 runs per game but it more station to station having gone yard just 84 times (#26). Only four teams have been worse bets than the Angels to date (-$1515).
PROBABLE PITCHERS
It’s still unknown as to whom the White Sox will send to the bump to oppose the Angels in this finale. Carlos Rodon went down prior to the break and was put on the DL. A Minor leaguer will likely be called up for this one.
It’s been a rough go of it for veteran right-hander Jered Weaver this season as he’s been forced to adapt to a loss in velocity by becoming an off speed junk baller. While he’s had a couple starts to throw his hat on, the overall body of work just hasn’t been up to snuff with him sporting a 5.27 ERA and WHIP north of 1.40. The opposition is raking him to the tune of a .294 batting average against and he’s striking out just 5.3 batters per nine innings. He has however succeeded in a big way versus Chicago throughout his career in going 11-2 with a 1.94 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. He tossed seven innings of three hit and 1 ER ball at U.S. Cellular Field to log his second win of the season back on April 21.
LIVE BETTING
The Angels have held the upper hand in the recent rivalry versus the White Sox in winning 12 of the last 20 overall meetings with the under cashing in 11 of those contests.
It’s been even worse for the Palehose in Anaheim where they’ve managed just five wins in their last 20 visits, and they haven’t taken a series there since 2011. The offenses have however flourished a bit more on the west coast with the over cashing in 12 of those contests.
QUICK PICK
Jered Weaver has been flat out embarrassing at Angels Stadium where his ERA jumps up to 6.18 as opposed to pitching to a 4.38 ERA when on the road. Neither figure is anything to write home about, but that’s the story with Weaver these days. He’s reached the seventh inning only once in his last eight starts, so that means the Halos No. 19 bullpen will likely play a role in this one. That adds more fuel to the fire of this being a high scoring game with the White Sox likely to trot an overmatched minor leaguer to the bump. Look for some runs to dent the scoreboard in this finale.
MLB Odds: White Sox 8, Angels 7
