The Seattle Mariners still a lot of work to do if they're going to be serious contenders in the AL West this year. They've got a three-game set at home against the Chicago White Sox ahead of them, the middle game of which will be played on Tuesday night.

ODDS ANALYSIS

The M's have been truly disappointing this season. Many believed they had a real shot to win the wide open AL West. That might be how this ultimately plays out, but with losses totaling 6.89 units for the season, bettors are running out of patience with them for sure.

The White Sox once had one of the best money marks in the bigs, and they looked like they were going to run away and hide from the rest of the AL Central. Then reality set in. Now, the Sox are struggling just to stay near the .500 mark, and they've dropped 3.54 units for the season for backers.

PITCHING MATCHUP

Wade Miley has admitted to having a sore shoulder of late, but he hasn't gone to the disabled list as perhaps he should have. His results of late have been dismal – a 2-4 mark and a 6.75 ERA in his last 10 starts. The good news for Miley is that he's had nine days off thanks to the All-Star break, and that might ultimately help him out just a bit, but he really hasn't had a great start in a game since June 7 in which he threw seven shutout innings against the Indians.

Jose Quintana pitched in the All-Star Game on Tuesday, so this start is going to end up being his first in 10 days as a result. The southpaw is only 7-8 on the season, but his 3.21 ERA and 105 strikeouts against just 28 walks are why he went to San Diego for the All-Star Game.

LIVE BETTING

History will tell you that Quintana does a good job of keeping the ball in the yard, but all of a sudden, he's really forgotten how to do that. He's allowed 12 homers already this season in 18 starts after giving up just a total of 26 in his last two seasons prior.

The Mariners don't necessarily do a ton right offensively, but they can really jack the ball when given the opportunity to do so. They've got 132 homers already on the season, and with Nelson Cruz now back from his foot injury, that gives the M's three legitimate 30 home run threats in their lineup along with Kyle Seager and Robinson Cano.

QUICK PICK

Until Miley proves to us that he's totally healthy, we can't back him, even at home against a pitcher who is largely overrated at this point in his career. Quintana wasn't legitimately an All-Star, but someone had to represent the White Sox, and he was the logical choice.

Though we hate the fact that Quintana has been allowing so many home runs of late, including three in his last start before the All-Star break, we still think that Chicago is the better play here, especially if it ends up coming into the game as a dog. This is a team with a respectable 21-23 record away from U.S. Cellular Field, and there's probably going to be too large of an overlay to account for the home and away splits these two teams have.

MLB Odds: White Sox 5, Mariners 3
