ODDS ANALYSIS

There’s no team hotter in the AL Central right now than Terry Francona’s Tribe who just swept a four game extended series from the defending World Series champion Kansas City Royals to move their win streak to five in a row. It’s been all about the pitching staff from the starting rotation to the bullpen that’s allowed for MLB bettors to cash in on this team for $169 overall. While the profit is far from noteworthy, the squad still sits seven games over .500 and is one of just five AL teams that owns a winning mark on the road.

The Mariners underachieved greatly under the previous coaching staff, so it’s nice to see the ball club succeeding in the early going with new manager Scott Servais calling the shots. Though the team was just humbled in a big way by the Rangers in Arlington over the weekend which cost them the AL West lead, the team is still playing .554 ball and possesses one of the more surprising offenses in the league. Shockingly, the team hasn’t figured out how to win ball games in front of the hometown faithful where they’ve dropped 14 of 26 overall for a -$821 return on investment.

PROBABLE PITCHERS

Carlos Carrasco is one of the more dominating right handers in all of baseball. Unfortunately, the guy just hasn’t been able to stay healthy. He just returned from a hamstring injury that kept him out five-plus weeks. The time off had him rusty in his return against the Royals who got to him for nine hits and 3 ER through just five innings of work. Most troubling were the two strikeouts he was only able to muster. Still, it was his first outing in quite some time, and he was on a pitch count evidenced by the 78 he was afforded. Look for that number to increase in this one.

Wade Miley pitched in one of the more memorable games in baseball history his last time out in San Diego where he was gouged to the tune of 12 hits and nine runs allowed. His offense bailed him out however, as the M’s battled back from a 12-2 deficit to log the unbelievable 16-13 win. That outing made it two in a row that he failed to get through five while allowing five or more earned runs. Cleveland doesn’t have the greatest of offenses, but it’s above average and will get to him again if he brings that weak stuff to the ball park.

LIVE BETTING

Cleveland has been semi-decent against left-handers this season in winning eight of 15 and scoring an average of 4.4 runs per game in those contests. Seattle has done most of its damage against right-handers in going 23-14 ($560) and plating an average of 5.8 runs per baseball game.

If looking to do some prop betting in this one, and you think Carrasco will still have some issues shaking off the rust, Robinson Cano is the bat you want to target. Aside from putting forth a bounce back campaign after struggling for a majority of last season, he’s 5-for-11 lifetime against the Indians starter with three extra base hits ( 1 HR) and 4 RBI with only one strikeout.

QUICK PICK

Anytime you can get a pitcher like Carrasco in a pitcher’s ball park at a decent price, you have to pounce on the opportunity. Add in the M’s home woes and the fact that Carlos has gone 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA and .178 batting average against through his two career starts against the Mariners, and it becomes a no brainer.
