ODDS ANALYSIS
This match-up pairs two of the bigger moneymakers on the season for MLB bettors with the Tigers the fifth best bet in all of baseball with an $876 return on investment and the Indians the fourth best bet with an $1146 return on investment.
Brad Ausmus’s Tigers entered this series in excellent form having rattled off six straight victories which includes just sweeping the Rays in the Trop over the weekend. In doing so, Miguel Cabrera and his mates pulled to one game under .500 as a visitor ($268).
The Tribe just broke their franchise record for most consecutive wins north of the border against Toronto. However, they then went on to lose the next two to split the series. The last loss was extremely painful in getting shellacked 17-1. They’ll return home where they sit 11 games over .500 for the season ($709).
PROBABLE PITCHERS
With big time prospects Sean Manaea, Blake Snell and Jameson Taillon already being called up this season, it’s Michael Fulmer that’s had the most impact in going 8-2 with a 2.17 ERA and .202 batting average against through 12 overall starts. The Tigers have won 10 of his 12 overall starts and given him an average of 5.8 runs per game to work with. He’s 6-2 with a 2.53 ERA as a visitor, but had issues with the Tribe at Progressive earlier this season when he was peppered for 10 hits and 5 ER through 5 IP.
The Indians possess one of the nastiest starting rotations in all of baseball. All five starters possess ERAs south of 3.80, and Josh Tomlin is one of them. The righty is in the midst of a banner season in going 9-1 with a 3.21 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. He’s allowed just 18 hits in his last 21 innings of work to go with a 14:3 K/BB ratio. He has however been a bit more hittable at home where his ERA jumps to 4.02 and WHIP to 1.19. He’s made three starts against this season against the Tigers and each were won and of quality.
LIVE BETTING
Both of today’s starting pitchers are currently locked in. Fulmer has allowed one or less run each of the last eight times he took to the starting bump, while Tomlin has tossed six straight quality starts since getting roughed up by the Rangers at home back on May 30.
Make it a point to check which ump will be behind home plate. Each of these hurlers possess swing and miss stuff with Fulmer averaging 9.0 K/9 and Tomlin 6.1 K/9. If the ump has a high whiff rate, look to hit the under through the first five innings.
QUICK PICK
That start against the Indians was Fulmer’s second of his big league career. They embarrassed him, so he’ll likely be out for some retribution in this spot. With him yet to get peppered since, there’s a high probability he goes deep enough in this one to qualify for the win provided Justin Upton and the rest of the Tiger’s sticks find a way to finally solve the riddle that’s been Josh Tomlin.
I believe they figure it out and find a way to scratch out a win in the series finale.
MLB Odds: Tigers 5, Indians 4
