ODDS ANALYSIS
The Dodgers have cut into the Giants lead atop the division standings after winning four of their last five heading into Wednesday night’s series finale with the Colorado Rockies. The team stood four games over .500 but down over $320 for their wagering supporters on the year. Away from Chavez Ravine, the team has played to an even 15-15 record costing those that supported them $69 overall.
While the Giants checked in as the fourth most lucrative bet in the league heading into Wednesday’s action, it’s been a rough go of it for Bruce Bochy’s squad which just lost Hunter Pence for the next couple months due to a hamstring injury, and has seen All-Star catcher Buster Posey sit out the last three games due to a thumb injury. It’s still unknown as to if he’ll be able to help San Fran improve upon its 16-12 ($179) home record through the weekend.
PROBABLE PITCHERS
Scott Kazmir has slotted in as the Dodgers No. 3 starter in the rotation. Unfortunately, he’s pitched more like a No. 4 even though he owns a +.500 record at 5-3. The Dodgers have only split his 12 overall starts, and he’s been at his absolute worst on the road where his ERA jumps to 5.13 up better than a run when he toes the bump at Dodgers Stadium (3.82). He has however been pretty darn good over his last three starts in going 2-0 with a 2.12 ERA while racking up 24 strikeouts to just four walks. He was rocked by the Giants earlier this season and will be looking to make amends.
The Giants have gotten a great return on investment with Jeff Samardzija who they inked for five years at $90M at the beginning of the season. As the Giants No. 3 starter, he’s 7-4 and owns a solid 3.33 ERA and .243 batting average against over the course of his 81 total innings of work (12 starts). He’s been incredibly tough to get to at AT&T where he’s allowed just 25 hits through 27.2 innings pitched, while averaging nearly 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings pitched. Though he took the loss in his lone appearance versus LA this season, the start was of quality.
LIVE BETTING
San Francisco holds a slim 4-3 advantage over the Dodgers heading into the rivals third series meeting of the season. The under has cashed in four of the seven skirmishes with an average run total of 9.1 runs per game.
The Giants took three of four when the teams last met at AT&T back at the beginning of April. In doing so, the Giants moved to a moneymaking 7-3 the last 10 times they hosted this rivalry. The under cashed at a 7-3 clip in those contests.
QUICK PICK
While each side has some issues with injuries right now, the Dodgers are the healthier of the two sides. They’re also playing a better brand of ball that has them streaking heading into this crucial divisional showdown. The absence of Hunter Pence in the middle of the lineup has already been felt, but most bothersome is the injury Buster Posey is dealing with right now.
For a team as middle of the road as San Fran is, injuries to those run producing sticks are the last thing Bochy and his staff want to deal with right now.
The Dodgers on the other hand are gaining confidence with every passing game, and they’ll enter the series having plated at least four runs in four of their last five games. With Kazmir also tougher to hit under the lights, that scoring output should be enough for the Dodgers to snag a win in this matchup.
MLB Odds: Dodgers 4, Giants 2
