ODDS ANALYSIS/INFO
Los Angeles is 32-29 on the year and trail the Giants by four games in the loss column. They are .500 on the road in 2016.
San Francisco currently is in first place in the National League West Division, sitting 11 games over .500 at 36-25. They play well at home and have posted 17 wins against 12 losses.
This will be the seventh of 16 meetings between the two teams in 2016 and the Giants hold a 3-1 edge.
The biggest difference between the two teams is how they take care of business within their division - the Giants steam roll their divisional foes with a 22-12 record, while the Dodgers are struggling to get the job done at 13-12.
This game can be seen on ESPN on Sunday night at a special starting time of 8:35 p.m., ET.
PROBABLE PITCHERS
Julio Urias (0-1, 6.94) gets the nod for the visiting Dodgers. The young left-hander has made just three starts but has shown small signs of progress in each of them. He was roughed up in New York on May 27, ran into some bad luck before getting walloped at Chicago last week and then, on Tuesday, struck out seven over four innings against the Rockies as the Dodgers won one of his starts for the first time. Walks have killed the phenom and his WHIP is up to 1.89 - not good!
This outing for Urias will mean that three of his first four starts will come on the road against the defending National League champion Mets, the best-record-in-baseball Cubs and the Giants, the team the Dodgers are chasing atop the NL West. Welcome to the big leads, young man!
Jake Peavy (2-6, 6.41) pitched five innings, allowing four runs, five hits and two walks while striking out five in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals in his latest start. The 35-year old veteran entered the bottom of the sixth with a 3-1 lead, but gave up two doubles and a walk to the first three batters he faced. He led 3-2 when he was pulled from the game, but the bullpen couldn't get out of the right-hander's jam, leaving Peavy with his fifth loss in his last six decisions. He's posting the worst numbers of his career and can't be used in virtually any format at this point.
SPOTLIGHT PLAYER
COREY SEAGER
The left-hand-hitting shortstop has been on fire, hitting three homers in one game against the Braves and following it up with a pair of bombs against the Cardinals. His slash line is .286/.341/.533 while upping his RBI total to 39 on the year. He leads the Dodgers in home runs, runs batted in, slugging percentage and runs scored.
THE PICK
The Los Angeles Dodgers have seen plenty of Jake Peavy over the past few years, but the Giants have never had a look at Urias, giving the Dodgers a slight edge. Peavy has been hammered all year and that should continue. The Giants will use patience to get to Urias and this game will sail OVER the total by the seventh inning.
