Miami’s Jose Fernandez has lost just one of his 28 career starts at home. He’s been beatable on the road, however, and the Giants are hopeful they can get to the Marlins flame-throwing right-hander when the teams hook up on Saturday.

ODDS ANALYSIS
Following a stretch of 12 consecutive games against NL East opponents, the Marlins finally get the chance to take on another National League team outside their division. And doing it on the road might not be a bad thing either.
Miami had a nice stretch on the road against the NL East favorites, splitting a pair of games in Washington and taking two of three from the Mets to go up 1.78 units on the moneyline in those games. In contrast, it took the Marlins six games to get their first home win. Even facing some tough pitching staffs, the over was 7-3 in the Marlins’ first 10 games of the season.
PROBABLE PITCHERS
José Fernandez (1-1, 3.78 ERA) earned his first win of the season on Monday, holding the Nationals to one run in 6.0 innings. He allowed three hits and walked four while striking out nine. Control has been an issue over his last two starts with seven walks in just 11.0 innings pitched.
With the worsening control, however, the results have been better, as the righty has allowed just six hits and two runs over his last two starts. But all the free passes and strikeouts are coming at the expense of high pitch counts. Monday’s outing was the longest of his three so far.
Jake Peavy’s (0-1, 9.00 ERA) spot in the rotation is up Saturday but the Giants have yet to officially announce a starter; likely because Peavy has gotten tagged in his first three outings. He yielded four runs and seven hits in five-plus innings Monday against Arizona, in what was his best start of the year.
Peavy pounded the zone with 54 strikes in his 78 pitches, but the throws have lost some luster since his prime and they weren’t fooling the D-Backs. He’s allowed 28 hits in just 14.0 innings with a 2.07 WHIP and a .431 batting average against.
LIVE BETTING
Fernandez has been a strikeout machine, fanning 27 batters in 16.2 innings this season. His swing-and-miss percentage is a staggering 34.1. Over his career the young flame thrower is averaging 10.7 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.
In his first start this season, Fernandez fanned 13 Detroit Tigers in 5.2 innings. It was the second-highest total of his brief career and the 10th time in 50 big league starts he reached double figures in strikeouts. We’ll find out just how much of strikeout pitcher he is on Saturday facing the Giants, who are among the leaders in fewest strikeouts this year.
QUICK PICK
Fernandez hasn’t been as dominant when pitching on the road as he’s been at home. The flashy right-hander was dealt his first career home loss earlier this season and is just 5-9 with a 3.70 ERA across 22 road starts. Still, he has dominant stuff and the Giants have been a bit of funk since opening the season at 6-2.
The Giants are hesitant to announce a starter for Saturday’s game even though it’s Peavy’s turn in the rotation. The veteran righty hasn’t been effective this season through three starts and there’s a possibility a move could be made. Peavy’s been around for a while and manager Bruce Bochy was encouraged by his last outing, and with Chris Heston, the most likely replacement, sent to the minors, all signs point to Peavy getting the nod. Unfortunately age and innings have taken their toll, leaving Peavy a shell of his former self.
