The Twins haven’t done much to deserve praise this season, but sweeping a series at Seattle over the weekend was a step in the right direction. The AL’s lowest scoring team nearly doubled its season average during a four-game winning streak and looks to close out its road trip with a win over the Athletics.

ODDS ANALYSIS
The Twins have something to smile about as they head to Oakland. They swept the Mariners in Seattle over the weekend, knocking the M’s out of first place in the AL West, and matched their season-best four-game winning streak in the process to improve to 15-34 overall. The recent run came after a stretch where Minnesota lost eight of nine games.
Even with a little winning streak in hand, the Twins remain the least profitable team in the American League, down 15.86 units on the moneyline overall and 8.59 units on the road. Oakland busted out of a slump also, winning the final two of their weekend set with the Tigers. The A’s had lost seven of eight prior to that.
PROBABLE PITCHERS
Pat Dean (1-1, 3.43 ERA) beat the Mariners on Friday night by allowing two runs on four hits with a season-high eight strikeouts over seven innings. It was his second straight quality start and the Twins won them both. Dean pitches to contact, so his strikeout total was a bit surprising.
With a below average fastball, Dean is forced to rely on pin-point control with his slider and changeup and he’s more than held his own through his first two big league starts. Dean has given up seven hits with 13 strikeouts and a 2.77 ERA over 13 innings of his two starts.
Sean Manaea (1-3, 7.03 ERA) yielded three runs in six-plus innings in a 4-1 loss the Tigers on Friday, tossing his second quality start in his past three outings. The rookie will be making just his seventh start in the majors and his spot in the rotation appears secure even if his performance hasn’t justified it yet.
The numbers have yet to come around for the rookie, who owns a 7.03 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over his first 32 innings, but he believes he’s becoming more comfortable with each start. The A’s feel Manaea has middle of the rotation stuff and since they aren’t going anywhere, they can afford to let him develop at the big league level if they wish.
LIVE BETTING
There might not be a hitter in the big leagues right now as hot as Minnesota’s Miguel Sano. The burly right-handed hitter capped his weekend with a home run in Seattle as the Twins pulled off the three-game sweep with their fourth straight victory. And Sano has homered in each of those games. He connected for a solo blast off M’s starter Taijuan Walker to put the Twins in front and hit .429 in the winning streak with six hits in 14 at-bats.
Sano increased his season home run total to 10 with his outburst and drove in seven over the four games, giving him 26 for the year. Sano homered in four consecutive games for the first time in his career and he has eight homers since May 11. Eight of his 11 dingers this year have been hit on the road.
QUICK PICK
The Twins showed some signs of life winning four straight capped by a weekend sweep of the Mariners. The AL’s lowest scoring team woke up and now faces the team with league’s next highest ERA to its own. Minnesota averaged only 3.56 runs through its first 45 games but totaled 25 and batted .288 during the win streak. Of the Twins 40 hits, 11 were home runs and they belted three in a game three times.
Minnesota made Safeco Field look small and invade another spacious park in O.co Coliseum. Facing rookie Manaea, the Twins could continue their recent onslaught. Oakland’s rookie left-hander has struggled through his first six starts and puts runners on base. A few timely hits will have the Twins in position to collect another win.
MLB Odds: Minnesota 5, Oakland 4
