Second place teams are set to square off with a pair of fire ballers leading the way Tuesday night when the Mets trot Jacob DeGrom to the bump to square off against Juan Nicasio and the home standing Pirates.

ODDS ANALYSIS
Though the Mets succumbed to the wrath of Jo-Fer on Sunday, it was still a successful start to their extended 10 game road trip as they took two of three to put a little distance between themselves and the Marlins in the NL East standings. The roady now gets a bit stiffer going into Pittsburgh where they’ll look to build upon their 16-12 road record that’s netter MLB bettors’ $105 worth of profit heading into Monday’s series opener. It was a nice bounce back weekend for Terry Collins squad who had dropped five of their previous nine to allow Washington to pull away in the standings.
It was not a good weekend for the Buccos who dropped two of three to Mike Trout and the sub .500 Angels. The Halos pair of wins allowed LA to claw over the .500 mark as a visitor. If Pittsburgh is to keep St. Louis in its rearview mirror and actually eat away at the Cubs gargantuan lead atop the NL Central standings, it can’t be dropping series at home to losing ball clubs. As it is, Clint Hurdle’s squad has amassed 16 wins through 27 tries when in front of the hometown faithful for a tidy return on investment of $127.
PITCHING MATCHUP
It’s been a rough start to the season for deGrom who has been forced to battle injury and also missed time due to the birth of a child. He’s yet to settle in, and because of it, has yet to pitch like the No. 1 stud he was just a short season ago. While he’s only allowed 48 hits through 55 innings of work and owns a solid 2.62 ERA, his K/9 average is down to 7.7 ad NY has only won five of his nine starts. His ERA jumps up to 3.38 away from Citi Field, but he’s been solid over his last 19 innings in allowing just 13 hits and 6 ER with a 24:8 K/BB ratio.
Juan Nicasio was a popular dark horse at the beginning of the season throughout fantasy circles. With pitching coach Ray Searage performing miracles in the past for guys like Edinson Volquez and J.A. Happ, the thought was that he would be able to do the same with the hard throwing Nicasio. The results thus far haven’t lived up to expectations with Nicasio 4-4 and the owner of a below average 4.75 ERA. He’s given up 53 hits through 53 innings of work, but he’s been much better at night when he’s conceded just 33 hits and struck out 38 through 39.2 innings pitched.
LIVE BETTING SCENARIO
The free-swinging Mets have struck out the fifth most time in the league (506), but they’ve also launched the fourth most home runs as well (76). Nicasio has only served up eight long balls all season, but three of them have left the yard in his last three starts. At PNC, he’s only given up three through 28.1 innings of work, but the opposition has also gotten to him for 27 hits through his 28.1 innings of work there to date.
Make it a point to gauge the Mets offense against Nicasio whose had issues going deep into games of late. He’s pitched through the sixth in only half of his last four starts, and if that turns out to be the case in this one, the edge would go to the Mets who have deGrom on the bump. He’s gone seven strong in back-to-back outings, and is also backed by the more dependable bullpen. Should Nicasio’s pitch count become elevated but is still able to keep the Mets off the board, look to live bet NY even when the Pirates are coming up to bat for a better return on investment.
