ODDS ANALYSIS
Winning two of three at Tampa Bay was a nice shot in the arm for Joe Girardi’s squad, but getting swept north of the border by the Toronto Blue Jays immediately after did the team absolutely no favors as it attempts to get back into the AL East race. With a makeup game scheduled versus Detroit to come first, the Yanks found themselves four games under the breakeven point to cost MLB bettors $557 overall. A bulk of that deficit has come on the road where NY’s dropped $493 in winning just 41 percent of their games played.
The Yankees currently check in as +11000 underdogs to win the AL East, and would cash in as +3600 underdogs if they bounced back dramatically to win the World Series.
Baltimore now finds itself two games in back of Boston for the top spot in the AL East after dropping two of the first three games of their current series. There’s one more still to play before this series with NY begins, so it’s possible they’d only be down a single game come Friday night. The O’s are still however a lucrative team for baseball bettors through the first two months of 2016 at 29 up and 22 down – good for a $630 return on investment with $626 of it coming when taking the field in front of the hometown faithful.
The Orioles are currently installed +350 underdogs to win the AL East behind the Blue Jays and Red Sox respectively, and would pony up a +1800 return if they were to win the World Series.
PITCHING MATCHUP
The second game of this series pits Ivan Nova up against Tyler Wilson; each will be making their second start of the week and looking to greatly improve upon the last effort.
Nova went six innings Monday night and allowed 8 hits and 4 ER to the Blue Jays. NY lost 4-2 as he was outdueled by Marco Estrada and took his third loss of the season. He’s now 3-3 for the year and is yet to reach the seventh inning in any of his five starts. He’ll likely be ecstatic about not facing Toronto this time around, but the Orioles and their tenth ranked scoring offense won’t allow him to make any mistakes. He’s 6-4 with a 5.07 ERA and .273 batting average against through 14 career starts against Baltimore.
Tyler Wilson has decent peripherals. His ERA checks in at 3.83 and his WHIP at 1.18. He’s only issued 12 free passes through just short of 50 innings of work, and the opposition is only hitting him to the of a .240 BAA. What has been missing from his arsenal is the ability to miss bats as he only sports a K/9 of 4.8 and that’s simply just not going to get it done in the offensive rich AL East. He’s made two appearances in his career versus NY and stands 0-1 with a 1.93 ERA and .206 BAA.
LIVE BETTING SCENARIO
This series marks the second of the year played between these division rivals with each taking place in Baltimore. The O’s have held the upper hand recently in taking seven of the last 10 meetings, but I give the Yankees a solid shot of taking this one to temporarily end the Orioles home dominance over them in winning eight of the last 10 times.
Keep a very close eye on Nova when live betting this one. If he’s efficient and is able to rack up a large number of strikeouts, it will allow him to go at least six innings. If Girardi is then able to go to Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman in the 7th, 8th and 9th, it’ll be lights out baby!
