Two teams with more or less no shot of qualifying for the playoffs will continue their interleague series on Saturday night when the Yankees and Padres collide under the lights in the FS1 Game of week.

ODDS ANALYSIS
The Yanks were served up a big stinking piece of humble pie by the Texas Rangers earlier in the week. The pair of defeats dropped Joe Girardi’s men to two games under .500 for the season, but it might as well be 20 games under the breakeven point with Texas letting them know just how far off they are from actually competing with the best of the best. NY is an old team that has a ton of bad contracts it needs to get rid of before it actually has a shot of being competitive within the AL East once again. As it is, the team is a +1500 underdog to win the division and a +2000 underdog to represent the AL in the World Series.
The Padres currently find themselves 15.5 games out of first place in the NL West. While they’re only eight games out of a Wild Card slot, it’s almost impossible to believe this club truly has what it takes to make an unexpected run. It has however cashed its fair share of tickets as big dogs this season evidenced by the fact that it’s 11 games under .500 but has only cost MLB bettors $112 overall. The offense has been pretty darn good over the last week in averaging 5.9 runs per game, and it’s got a cushy match-up here to continue flexing its offensive muscles.
PROBABLE PITCHERS
Seriously, is it that bad on the Yankees farm that they seriously have to continue trotting Ivan Nova to the bump every five days? The dude’s a gas can, nothing more – nothing less. Over his last 14 innings of work, he’s given up 24 hits and 14 ER. He’s given up four home runs in his last three starts in which he failed to reach the sixth inning in each. Again I ask, why is Nova still starting for anyone at the Major League level? NY’s 7-9 in his 16 appearances to date, and he’s been his absolute worst on the road where his ERA skyrockets to 6.98 and WHIP to 1.55. There’s nothing but red alerts sounding off heading into this one.
On the flipside, Drew Pomeranz continues to amaze this season. Always considered a special talent, it was only injury that prevented him from busting out the last couple seasons. So far so good in 2016 as he’s made all his scheduled starts to be one of the lone bright spots the Padres can build upon down the road. His 2.76 ERA ranks amongst the top 15 in the league, and he’s one of only 18 pitchers to have already logged 100 strikeouts overall. He’s allowed just 31 hits through 40+ innings pitched at home where he’s 4-3 with a 2.88 ERA. At night, that ERA drops to 2.08 and his K/9 jumps to 10/6!
LIVE BETTING
It will be interesting to see what kind of respect oddsmakers give Pomeranz here against the Yankees. Should NY go off the board dogged – which they should – the betting public likely won’t be able to get enough of the over the hill squad from the Bronx.
That won’t sway my decision here at all. Nova’s a joke and I’ll no doubt be looking to double up here on Pomeranz over the first five innings and well as the full game. If SD somehow comes out dogged in this one, hammer the home team until the line corrects.
QUICK PICK
It’s always possible Nova pulls one out of his behind and the Padres bats fail to connect, but I just don’t see that occurring in this one. San Diego’s sticks have scored an average of 5.3 runs per game over the last eight games, and Wil Myers and company now get to take their hacks against a hack for lack of a better descriptive word. Look for Pom and the Friars to take this one with ease.
MLB Odds: Padres 10, Yankees 4
