The Yankees had plenty of chances to get things done at home and they failed. Now they’ll try for better success on the road. After opening the season with 12 of 17 games at Yankee Stadium, New York finishes the first of three straight road series Wednesday against Texas,

ODDS ANALYSIS
The Yankees are hoping a trip out of the Bronx will do them some good. New York ended a 3-6 homestand with an 8-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday, its eighth loss in 11 games overall. The Yankees scored a total of 28 runs in those 11 games and managed fewer than three runs in seven of the eight losses while the under was 6-3-2. The Yanks opened the season playing 12 of their first 17 at home and the results weren’t very good. They continue the nine-game road trip with stops against AL East rivals Boston and Baltimore.
After being swept in a series for the first time since July, the Rangers return home and look to pound the Yankees struggling rotation. Texas was outscored 13-4 in losing three straight to the White Sox over the weekend, but has done plenty of damage at Globe Life Park this season. The Rangers enter the series having won four straight home games and five of six putting them up 4.68 units moneyline during that span.
PROBABLE PITCHERS
C.C. Sabathia (1-1, 5.28 ERA) looks to get back on track after a pair of short outings. The big lefty hasn’t gotten out of the fifth inning in his last two starts after notching a quality start in his season debut. He may have finished 4.2 innings with only three earned runs on his ledger, but the Rays were all over him on Friday night for nine hits and three walks.
Velocity loss isn’t always the end of the world, but Sabathia hasn’t been able to command his diminished stuff all year. He walked more batters than he struck out on Friday and his ERA ballooned to 5.28.
Texas’ Martin Perez (0-2, 4.50 ERA) is still looking for his first win after four starts. He allowed five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two over 5.2 innings to take the loss Friday. Prior to Friday, Perez had recorded quality starts in each of his first three outings. But his control remains an issue. Perez has walked 13 with only 11 strikeouts in 24.0 innings this season.
Perez lost his only career start against the Yankees, allowing eight runs in one-plus inning on July 28, 2015 in Arlington. However, since then he’s 3-0 with a 2.31 ERA in his last seven home starts.
LIVE BETTING
To beat the Yankees it’s important to stay away from the hard-throwing bullpen, particularly the back end that consists of closer Andrew Miller and setup man Dellin Betances. The two have combined for 37 strikeouts in 17.0 innings while allowing just eight hits and no earned runs. Unfortunately for New Yorkers, the starters have had a tough time getting there.
The Yanks starting rotation ranks among the worst in baseball with a 5.14 ERA while opponents have hit .290 with 16 home runs. Sabathia hasn’t gotten out of the fifth inning in his past two outings, surrendering 16 hits in 9.1 total innings. Until the Yankees get their starting pitching woes taken care of, all that good work from the pen will likely be wasted.
QUICK PICK
Sabathia just doesn’t have it anymore. He’s been cuffed around for the better part of the past four seasons and 2016 is starting out to be his worst season ever. He had a good run in the bigs but the 35-year-old hasn’t learned to pitch with his diminished arsenal. Unfortunately the Yankees don’t appear to have many options and Sabathia will keep his spot in the rotation even though his grip on it is loosening.
The rotation is getting little help from the offense, compounding New York’s struggles early on. We could see the Yanks bust out against Perez, who has struggled this year. One thing a pitcher can’t afford to do is walk opposing hitters who are having a tough time at the dish. Perez has walked too many batters this MLB season and that does him and the Rangers in.
MLB Odds: New York 7, Texas 5
