With both CC Sabathia and Martin Perez set to square off against one another in the finale of this three-game series between the Yankees and Rangers in Arlington, a whole bevy of +EV live betting total situations could arise with neither starting hurler able to go deep into games the first month of the season.

ODDS ANALYSIS

In taking the series opener on Monday night, the Yankees only moved to within two-games of becoming a .500 team. For the season, NY has won just eight total games, and because of it, finds itself down $373 overall with a bulk of the deficit being incurred at home.

On the road, manager Joe Girardi’s men have split their first six games for a whopping $9 return on investment.

The defending AL West champion Rangers rank amongst the top 10 bets in all of baseball having reeled in just north of $160 overall in splitting their first 20 games played right down the middle. The team was a saving grace last year on the road where it made nearly $2400 overall due to cashing routinely as heavy dogs.

That hasn’t been the case in 2016 with the team two-games under .500 on the road, but 6-4 at home where they’ve reeled in $260 worth of profit for its wagering supporters.

Combined, these teams have played to the under in 19 of their 36 overall games played due to underachieving offenses, but with this pitching matchup, that could benefit total players due to a suppressed total in a premiere hitters park.

PROBABLE PITCHERS

CC Sabathia was once the face of New York’s starting pitching staff. That unfortunately is no longer the case. It’s been a gradual decline since 2013, the last time he tossed more than 200 innings. Even in that season, his ERA spiked up to 4.78 from 3.38 and hasn’t sniffed sub 4.00 the last two seasons.

In 15.1 innings of work in 2016, the lefty has thrown to a 5.28 ERA and 1.83 WHIP. The opposition is raking him to the tune of a .308 batting average against, but he did have his finest showing of the young season in his lone road start at Detroit where he gave up three earned through six innings – his longest stint to date.

Martin Perez looked to be on his way to a stellar career back in 2013 when he went 10-6 in his first full season as a Ranger. Unfortunately, he had to go under the knife for a Tommy John surgery and has been on the comeback trail ever since.

It’s been rocky to say the last. In just over 78 innings last season, he went 3-6 and conceded 88 hits and 39 earned runs through 78.2 total innings. Through four starts in 2016, he’s 0-2 and the owner of a 4.50 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. Texas has failed to win each of his last seven starts dating back to last season.

LIVE BETTING SCENARIO

The way this game plays out has everything to do with how effective each of these starting pitchers is. Should Sabathia and Perez each go deep, it would take each team’s long relief out of the equation and give under bettors a better shot at chasing their tickets.

That likely isn’t going to happen with Sabathia nothing more than a five inning pitcher at best these days and Perez going past the sixth only once in his four starts.

Make it a point to see how each of these teams’ bullpens is utilized on Tuesday night. Should top arms like Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller, Sam Dyson and Shawn Tolleson be used, it will force each manager to look to their lesser tiered arms for innings.

That should have total bettors perked up and ready to pounce!

Especially if both Sabathia and Perez are able to limit the damage early but still get hooked early due to heavy pitch counts forcing oddsmakers to release a suppressed total on the live betting lines.
