MLB Odds: San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Preview

2016-MLB-Padres-at-Dodgers-Odds-and-Lines

The Dodgers will attempt to chew into the Giants lead atop the division standings and continue adding some separation between them and the rest of the teams chasing them in the Wild Card race on Saturday night when they battle the Padres.

You can bet on MLB odds at BookMaker.eu every day of the season.

ODDS ANALYSIS

San Diego isn’t nearly as bad as its 36-48 record indicates. The offense has some thump evidenced by it ranked No. 17 in runs scored per game and No. 19 in home runs. On top of that, the pitching staff ranks No. 14 in the quality start department. Arizona currently sits above them in the standings at 10 games under. They’ve cost MLB bettors over $1100 to date. SD sits 12 games under .500 yet only has a -$147 return on investment. That means they’ve been cashing as big doggies which is what they’ll once again be tonight.

Nine teams currently sit ahead of the Dodgers on the World Series futures odds. Four teams sit ahead of them on the NL pennant odds. The Giants are -1000 favorites to win the NL West and currently hold a five game lead over the Dodgers. If you truly think Yasiel Puig and company have what it takes to overcome them in the standings, hit the futures market now because those odds will surely become shorter once Clayton Kershaw returns from the DL.

PROBABLE PITCHERS

Drew Pomeranz is the only Padres starter to have logged more than 90 innings at this point in the season. That’s just flat out embarrassing and one of the main reasons why SD is never going to compete for a division pennant or World Series anytime soon. Luis Perdomo is the epitome of someone just filling a roster spot until something better comes along. His ERA currently sits at 7.93 and batting average against at .350. How four of his last five starts have been of quality baffles me, but SD won four of them so this outing has back the ugly barking dog written all over it.

It was a successful return to the bigs for Brandon McCarthy who carved up the Colorado Rockies with 8 Ks and only two hits allowed through five innings to log his first dub of the season. It almost looked as if he didn’t skip a beat, but it will be interesting to see how much more of a leash he’ll have in this one. Lifetime against the Friars, McCarthy has excelled in going 6-1 with a 3.73 ERA and 1.11 WHIP through eight career starts.

LIVE BETTING

Look for some runs to get put on the board late in this one. It’s still really unknown as to how deep Dave Roberts is prepared to let McCarthy go in his second go round on the big club. Perdomo is yet to see the 7th inning in any of his previous five made starts, and San Diego’s bullpen is wretched.

Look to live bet the over after the 5th or 6th inning, and also hit the second half over with both offenses likely to get in some decent hacks.

QUICK PICK

It’s going to be incredibly easy to roll with the home team and lay the chalk in this one. LA won’t possibly be able to get much squarer. With that the case, I’ll be fading the betting public and backing Perdomo as a big dog. SD has thrived in that spot all season, and McCarthy – as good as he looked in his 2016 debut – doesn’t command that type of respect from the oddsmakers just yet. LA buyers beware!

MLB Odds: San Diego 6, Dodgers 5
