MLB Betting Online: Two pitchers with established Major League Baseball track records will look to get back to form when the Angels and Tigers face off on Tuesday, June 1st, 2016 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. Detroit hopes Anibal Sanchez can rebound while Anaheim prefers that Hector Santiago does so. The pitcher who performs better will give his team the leg up. The Tigers are on the road but may be able to pick up the win behind Sanchez in MLB wagering.
The Tigers have a record of 24-25 on the season, which is in fourth place in the American League Central but only three games behind division-leading Kansas City. The Tigers enter on a two-game losing streak and will aim to get back to .500 on the season with a victory. Anibal Sanchez has a record of 3-6 on the season with an ugly 6.04 ERA. His problem has been command, as Sanchez is walking too many batters and getting into jams regularly. However, he has a career ERA of 3.79 and still has the capability of turning it around in 2016. He doesn’t need to be perfect, as the Detroit offense has been good this season with 220 runs scored. Miguel Cabrera is off to a slow start by his standards but is still batting .306 with 11 homers, 31 RBIs and a .931 OPS. Victor Martinez has been very impressive on the season, hitting .351 with seven homers, 30 RBIs and a .936 OPS. Nick Castellanos, Ian Kinsler and J.D. Martinez have also been solid, and the Tigers hope to get more from Justin Upton as the season moves along. Upton signed a lucrative free agent contract with the team this offseason but is batting only .219 with two homers and 10 RBIs this year, which is a very disappointing start.
The Angels hope to get a serviceable performance from their starting pitcher, Hector Santiago. He is 3-3 on the season with a 4.58 ERA. Santiago has a career ERA of 3.64, although the forecasts for the rest of the 2016 season are more in line with his current numbers. Santiago could have some trouble against Detroit’s potent lineup. The Angels hope to combat that with some offense of their own. They are led by Mike Trout, who is arguably the best player in the game. Trout is batting .317 this season with 11 homers and 37 RBIs on the year and a .978 OPS. While he’s been his usual great self, there hasn’t been enough support around him. The Angels are 22-28 on the season and are desperately trying to hang in the race for the American League West title or a wild card berth. Albert Pujols is batting just .229 on the year with 11 homers, 35 RBIs and a .734 OPS and will need to pick it up in order to help out Trout in the middle of the order. Outfielder Kole Calhoun and designated hitter C.J. Cron are a pair of other key batters in the lineup.
The Tigers have a better lineup as well as a pitcher with more upside in this matchup with Sanchez taking the hill. Despite the fact Detroit is on the road, it could squeak out a close victory in MLB betting.
Quick Pick MLB Odds: Sanchez has had a rough season but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him perform well against the Angels and pick up the victory.
