The Kansas City Royals are the defending World Series champions and have made it there in two straight seasons. For a long time this season it seemed like even returning to the playoffs was gone, but a recent hot streak has put Kansas City back in the mix. The Royals will aim to keep closing the gap on the wild card leaders when they face off against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, September 3rd, 2016, at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Kansas.

ODDS ANALYSIS
The Royals have gone 8-2 in their past 10 games to improve to 69-62 on the season. They have been hanging around .500 for much of the season but have now moved into wild card contention. The offense struggled for a long stretch especially when outfielder Alex Gordon and third baseman Mike Moustakas collided, which sent both to the disabled list for a long time. Gordon is back and the team is hitting better.
The Tigers are 71-61 on the season and also pushing for a playoff spot. Both teams are chasing the Cleveland Indians in the American League Central and trying to catch the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles in the wild card standings.
PROBABLE PITCHERS
The Royals will send mercurial right-hander Yordano Ventura to the mound. Ventura is 9-9 with a 4.33 ERA on the season. Ventura has a lively fastball and has the capability of being one of the better starters in baseball, but has been too inconsistent this year.
The Tigers should have the starting pitching advantage as they will send out star rookie Michael Fulmer. He is 10-5 on the season with a 2.69 ERA and could give the Royals offense fits if he continues to pitch this well.
LIVE BETTING
The Tigers are clearly the better offensive team. Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez, Ian Kinsler and J.D. Martinez lead the way as the team has scored the fifth-most runs in the American League on the season.
The Royals have been much worse, as only the Oakland Athletics have a worse offense this year. Kansas City has a good defense but needs some bats to help out Eric Hosmer, Salvador Perez and Kendry Morales, a few of the only consistent hitters in the lineup.
QUICK PICK
The Royals have been much better of late and that has to count for something. Kansas City has been a perennial contender for each of the past two seasons and that experience should help down the stretch.
However, the Tigers have been the better team from the start and have a better lineup. Even though they are on the road, the presence of Fulmer on the mound and some big-time hitters in the lineup should give Detroit a fair chance at claiming this one.
The Tigers could very well be the road favorites in this one, and they could still be the right team to choose to cover the spread and come away with the victory.
