The New York Mets are barely hanging on to National League playoff contention one year after making it to the World Series. If they are able to turn it on and qualify again, it will be on the back of their excellent pitching staff. The Mets have a tough game against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, August 21st, 2016 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California. However, they have star hurler Noah Syndergaard taking the mound, which could be enough to give them the edge in MLB wagering.

ODDS ANALYSIS
The San Francisco Giants have been the better team this year. They are 66-54 but a recent poor spell has dropped them out of first place in the National League West. The Giants want to avoid a wild card spot because that would mean a one-game playoff before the National League Division Series. The Giants have the talent to win the division but have a tough foe battling them in the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The New York Mets are 60-59 on the year and have been unable to make a move because of their poor offense. The Mets can make some noise if they can get into the playoffs because there is so much talent in their starting rotation, but it seems unlikely to happen unless they turn on the jets the rest of the way.
PROBABLE PITCHERS
Noah Syndergaard is a good person to start a hot streak. He has a record of 10-7 with a 2.76 ERA that is no fluke. Syndergaard has struck out an ungodly 11 batters per nine innings in 2016 and is every bit as talented as some of the other most highly-regarded pitchers in the major leagues.
The Giants will counter with Jeff Samardzija, a player who has had some great success in the majors but who has been much more inconsistent. Samardzija has a record of 10-8 with a 4.24 ERA this season. His strikeout numbers are way down, which is concerning, even against a feeble Mets offense.
LIVE BETTING
New York has had one of the toughest times putting across runs this season. It hasn’t helped that some of their best hitters have been hurt, but star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes and infielder Asdrubal Cabrera are on the comeback trail and should be available for this game against the Giants. Neil Walker has been another valuable piece but the offense has lacked punch in too many games this season.
The Giants may not have any big bashers, but their offense is much more well-rounded. Catcher Buster Posey and first baseman Brandon Belt lead the way, but the Giants have players up and down the lineup who can get the job done. However, it will be a challenge doing so against Syndergaard.
QUICK PICK
The Mets have not shown this season that they have the same magic of 2015. Unless a big change happens, they seem destined to finish the year outside of the playoff picture. That’s probably what will happen, but Syndergaard can give them some hope, at least for one night. Expect a dominant outing out of him in a pitcher’s park in San Francisco as the Mets keep their slim playoff hopes alive in MLB wagering.
