Nathan Eovaldi's luck might run out for New York Yankees against Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday

2015-Orioles-at-Yankees-Betting-Odds

Opportunity is knocking for the New York Yankees (50-41 SU, +1.06 Units). They have opened up a four-game lead in the AL East, a lead which they could seriously pad beginning on Tuesday in a three-game set with the Baltimore Orioles (46-45 SU, -1.09 Units) at home.

PITCHING MATCHUP

There might not be a luckier pitcher in the game this year than Nathan Eovaldi, and he just so happens to be pitching on Tuesday night for the Bronx Bombers.

By all accounts, Eovaldi should not be a 9-2 pitcher. He allows a ton of contact, and the contact he allows is solid. His BABIP allowed of .355 is probably higher than it should be, but we certainly see why and how he struggles as much as he does. His 4.50 ERA is merely average, but a tremendous glut of run support and great bullpen work has consistently made him a winner.

And then there's Wei-Yin Chen, who just can't catch a break this season. When you have a 2.78 ERA, you should be a lot better than 4-5.

However, Chen has a few alarming stats going against him which concern us mightily for live betting purposes.

Chen's ERA is great, but his FIP of 4.20 is bothersome. He has stranded 83.7 percent of his runners this year, and his BABIP against is an unsustainable .255.

Especially here in Yankee Stadium, Chen could be due for a bad performance, especially if he is allowing too many fly balls. Keep a close eye on him for live betting purposes, and know if the big boppers for the O's are about to come up that you should be staying away.

ADVANCED STATS

Part of the reason why Chen has stranded so many runners this year is because of the defense behind him. The lefty keeps a lot of balls on the ground, and that generally leads to a lot of plays by this fantastic infield.

According to FanGraphs, the O's rank No. 3 in overall defensive rating at 19.2 as a team, and they are third in the league as well in UZR, one of the most notable defensive stats regarding range and finishing plays.

The Orioles have committed just 39 errors this year, No. 2 in the league, and they easily have the fewest fielding errors in baseball with 12.

TALKING BULLPENS

The Yankees officially have their bullpen back, and they are pitching like it at the moment.

Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller are both phenomenal relievers, and either one could be a closer on just about any other team in baseball.

Both have had a few little blips in the radar, but for live betting purposes, if this game gets into the eighth inning, it's basically all over.

Since Miller has come back to assume the closer's role, Betances has gone back into a middle relief position and has allowed just one hit in 5.1 scoreless innings of work. He has eight strikeouts to show for his work in that span as well.

Miller certainly seems to have been helped out by the All-Star break. The lefty had some problems coming back from his forearm injury, allowing four runs in three innings after his return.

Since the break though, Miller has come back strong, closing out a pair of games in a total of 29 pitches with three strikeouts and just one hit allowed.
