New York Mets at Kansas City Royals Game 1 betting odds on FOX Tuesday

World-Series-Game-1-ODDS26

The Fall Classic is expected to be flat out awesome in 2015, as a pair of up and coming teams head into battle to decide the champion of the baseball world starting on Tuesday night. The New York Mets might not have home field advantage, but they're still the slight favorites to win the World Series for the first time since 1986 at the expense of last year's runners up, the Kansas City Royals.

ODDS ANALYSIS

The Mets might be on the road, and they might not have the better lineup of these two clubs, but as is always the case, good pitching trumps good hitting for betting purposes.

New York has the better pitcher for sure on the bump in Game 1 and will have that edge in just about every game in this series as well. The margin isn't wide at just -115, but the Mets are carrying the torch as the favorites.

PITCHING MATCHUP

Matt Harvey is the somewhat surprise starter for Game 1 of the World Series for the Mets. Terry Collins is waiting to use Jacob deGrom in Game 2 instead, perhaps setting up a situation where he could close out this series in Game 6.

Harvey though, hasn't been bad by any stretch of the imagination in this postseason. He twirled a gem against the Cubs at home back on October 17 to win Game 2 of the NLCS, allowing two runs over 7.2 innings with nine strikeouts.

Edinson Volquez is very likely to be the Game 1 starter for Kansas City. He was terrible against the Blue Jays in his last start in Game 5 of the ALCS, allowing three hits and four walks in five innings. Toronto got to him for five runs.

The real concern for Volquez is all those walks. He's put four men on via balls in each of his three starts in the postseason, and that's the type of stat which generally gets you killed in the playoffs.

QUOTE TO NOTE

"I don't think it's going to limit me. And honestly, if I really, truly didn't feel 100 percent, I would not have a problem just stepping down and saying I can't play. But I feel like I'll be ready." – Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes on his injured left shoulder and the speculation that he could be the team's DH in Games 1 and 2 of the World Series

SITUATIONAL BETTING

If the Mets get the ball to Jeurys Familia, the game is flat out over. It's worth mentioning that Familia was the third choice to be the New York closer this year behind Jenrry Mejia and Bobby Parnell. Yet here he is in the postseason, a perfect 5-for-5 in save chances with 9.2 scoreless innings and just four base runners allowed.

PROP TALK

It's worth mentioning that the top men in the KC lineup have all been hitting the ball hard, too. No, Alcides Escobar, Alex Rios and Ben Zobrist aren't popping dingers like Daniel Murphy is, but they're all reaching base at a .375 clip or better, and they're all batting at least .326. It's tough to bet against these guys, especially with the overlay which will come with these Mets pitchers being the foes for the next week and a half.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

We love the Royals in Game 1 of this series. We're worried about Harvey and his response to pitching on the road in the playoffs, and we're certainly worried about the shot he took to the triceps on a comebacker in his last start against the Cubs.

The Royals are going to be outmanned here for pitching purposes, but these batters hit the ball and put things in play, and defense isn't New York's strong suit.

In the end, Volquez will do just enough to turn things over to the bullpen, and that's where the Royals will flex their muscles and take a 1-0 series lead.
