New York Mets at San Francisco Giants betting odds on the MLB Network Wednesday

Mets-at-Giants.nss

Parlay the New York Mets' (42-41 SU, +0.09 Units) with their inability to score runs at the moment, and you've got a disaster waiting to happen on Wednesday against the San Francisco Giants (42-41 SU, -3.13 Units).

ODDS ANALYSIS

The last seven games played between these two teams were all played at Citi Field over the course of the last two seasons. The Mets were favored in five of those seven games, yet they are just 2-5 to show for their work. In fact, the Giants are 8-2 in the last 10 against New York overall, cashing in to the tune of +6.60 units in the process.

PITCHING MATCHUP

Jake Peavy sat for nearly two months on the DL with a back injury, but he was effective in his first start back over the weekend. The righty tossed 6.1 effective, yet not spectacular innings, allowing two runs and three hits overall. Four walks was a concern, but that was to be expected for a man who spent such a long time on the DL before stretching out in the minors.

Jacob deGrom is just praying that he gets some help from the offense on this night. He’s only gone 1-2 in his last four starts in spite of the fact that he’s allowed a grand total of six earned runs, throwing at least seven innings in three of those four games. His last start against the Cubs was a concern, as he allowed seven hits and four runs (three earned) in just 5.1 innings, and he needed 115 pitches to get that far.

QUOTE TO NOTE

"I just think some of the guys are starting to break out. Wilmer's (Flores) is really starting to swing the bat good right now, of course. (Daniel) Murphy is swinging good, Grandy (Curtis Granderson) continues to swing the bat well. When we get Lucas (Duda) undone here and (Michael) Cuddyer going, our lineup is going to be what we thought it was going to be." – Mets manager Terry Collins after his offense exploded for eight runs on Sunday against the Dodgers to stop a stretch of 12 out of 14 games scoring two runs or fewer

SITUATIONAL BETTING

Very quietly, the Mets will get back Jenrry Mejia this week. It's easy to forget, but he was the closer last year in the Big Apple, and he did a darn good job of it. Of course, being on the shelf for 80 games thanks to violations of the league's substance abuse policy made us all forget about Mejia, but if he comes back with the same zip he had in his arm at the end of last year, all of a sudden, the Mets have three capable closers in Mejia, Bobby Parnell and acting closer Jeurys Familia.

PROP TALK

Buster Posey, just named to the All-Star roster once again, has really been on fire of late. He has hit safely in 11 straight games, and has accounted for at least two bases in all but two of those 11. Posey is always a tough man to bet on for prop purposes because his price is generally overinflated, but in this case, even against deGrom, we're willing to take a chance.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

We're not convinced that the Mets are over the hump yet offensively. Maybe a good showing on Monday or Tuesday will help us believe differently, but they still stink at the plate.

Peavy just needs to be okay in this game to be enough in all likelihood, as the New York offense will surely give him some free or easy-to-get outs.

Poor deGrom probably has another good seven innings in him or so, but we think that he is going to be saddled with another ND at best.
