New York Mets suddenly out of offense heading into Game 3 against Kansas City Royals

World-Series-Game-3-Oct29

If anyone can find the New York Mets' offense, there are a lot of people in the Empire State who would pay a huge reward for locating it. All of a sudden, the Amazins have gone silent at the plate, and that's why they're in an 0-2 hole in the World Series against the Kansas City Royals.

ODDS ANALYSIS

KC might have the 2-0 lead, but it isn't out of the woods quite yet. The team is still going to have to take at least one of these games in New York to ensure a series lead coming back to Kauffman Stadium, and the odds aren't going to be on its side. The Royals are sure to be big underdogs in Game 3, knowing that they were pups in both Game 1 and Game 2.

PITCHING MATCHUP

Noah Syndergaard has had a ton of pressure on him in these playoffs, but boy, has he come out to play. The fact that he is trusted with this pivotal Game 3 speaks volumes, and we know that he is the man to get New York out of this jam if anyone can.

Syndergaard hasn't gone deep into games, but the fact that he has 20 strikeouts in just 13 innings of work in the playoffs is a testament to how dominant he has been.

Yordano Ventura can really get the ball up there in a hurry as well, and we suspect we'll see a number of flailing Mets at pitches in this one. New York has already struck out 19 times in this series, and Ventura has a K/9 of 10.9 this postseason.

QUOTE TO NOTE

"We've been here before. We've had our backs up against the wall against the Astros in the Wild Card game last year, we've been in these situations. We're comfortable with where we're at, and we've just gotta go out and just continue to play good ball." – Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas on staying loose in the World Series

SITUATIONAL BETTING

Every time we see the Mets' middle relievers come out of the bullpen, we shake our head. This really is the soft underbelly of this team right now. We saw it in extra innings in Game 1 when Tyler Clippard pitched his way into some trouble, and we saw it again in Game 2 in the eighth when a 4-1 game became a 7-1 blowout in a hurry. Considering the fact that Syndergaard is averaging over 18 pitches per inning in the postseason, we have a tough time imagining a game in which the middle relievers aren't going to be called upon for at least a few outs.

PROP TALK

Matt Harvey and Jacob deGrom combined for four strikeouts of these Royals in the first two games of this series. Kansas City had just three swings and misses against deGrom, a man who always did a fantastic job

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

When teams just go cold offensively in the playoffs, they seem to be down and out. On a much smaller scale, it happened to the Royals last year as soon as Madison Bumgarner entered Game 7 of the World Series. On a grander scale, it happened to the Cubs in the NLCS, and it sure looks like it's happening now to the Mets in the Fall Classic.

It was like that homer allowed to Alex Gordon in the ninth by Jeurys Familia sucked the life right out of the Mets. They went 1-for-19 with the one being a bunt single in extra innings in Game 1, and they followed that up by going 2-for-28 in Game 2 off of Johnny Cueto.

Maybe getting a day off and getting back home will fix these woes, but for the time being, we can't see any justification for betting on the Mets until they get their bats worked out. It might very well be too little, too late for New York.
