New York Yankees at Atlanta Braves betting odds on Fox Sports 1 Saturday

Yankees-at-Braves-Wager27

The Braves are in a free fall, losing nine of their last 10 and at 54-73, have proven to be a poor bet with a cumulative moneyline of -$1,051. The Yankees, meanwhile, aren’t exactly playing their best ball, either, but are a much more respectable 69-57 having won $52 against the moneyline.

ODDS ANALYSIS

New York has lost five of its last seven games, dropping each of the last two series played to the Indians and Astros.

The Yankees will look to bounce back against a Braves’ squad that has dropped 13 of 16 since August 9.

The offense is the biggest issue for the Braves as they’ve scored just 3.65 runs per game, the fewest of any team in baseball and have a league worst .679 OPS and just 81 home runs.

PITCHING MATCHUP

A couple young arms take the hill in this middle game of three on Saturday with Luis Severino making his fifth big league start for the Yankees and Matt Wisler getting start No. 13 for the Braves.

Severino is coming off his first big league win on Saturday, holding the Indians to a single run on three hits over six innings of work. It wasn’t only the first win for Severino, but the first time the Yankees have won with him on the mound.

Despite the lack of wins, he’s pitched rather well with a 2.74 ERA and 1.087 WHIP in 23 innings. In just four starts, he’s put himself in the conversation to make the playoff rotation.

While Severino has had a good deal of success in his young career, Wisler has seen both success and struggles.

After his first seven starts, Wisler has a 3.43 ERA, but that’s since ballooned to 5.43 after allowing seven runs in just two and two-thirds innings last time out against the Cubs. In the month of August, Wisler is 0-3 with a 9.13 ERA and 2.074 WHIP in 22 2/3 innings.

QUOTE TO NOTE

After dropping the series to the Astros on Wednesday, Yankees’ outfielder Brett Gardner spoke about the team’s disappointment with their recent performance, saying:

“We’re obviously not playing up to expectations. I know that from the top to the bottom, especially fans, they expect more of us. But nobody expects more out of us than ourselves, so we’re working hard, trying to do our best to get out of it and right the ship.”

LIVE/SITUATIONAL BETTING

Even after the recent struggles, the Yankees are still baseball’s second most prolific offense with 4.67 runs per game, but they managed just four runs in three game against the Astros and plated three or fewer in six of their last seven games.

Individually, however, the team has the talent to stack up with anyone with Mark Teixeira back healthy and partnering with Alex Rodriguez in the middle and Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner setting the table.

On the complete other side of the spectrum offensively is a Braves team dead last in runs. The team has a few good players, but lacks power. Freddie Freeman has been on the disabled list twice, but still leads the team in home runs with 14.

Meanwhile, Nick Markakis has been a key part of the offense and while his .371 OBP is solid, he’s only hit two home runs.

PROP TALK

Keep an eye on Nick Swisher in this series. The former Yankee will be motivated as he tries to prove he’s healthy and the same player he was a few years ago.

The veteran outfielder has been on top of his game lately with a 1.134 OPS over his last 11 games. He’s also 6 for his last 13 with two home runs and a .563 OBP.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

Swisher gives the Braves at least one player along with Freeman that can strike fear in the opposition, but Atlanta’s offense is still way behind the Yankees’ in terms of power and depth.

Meanwhile, on the mound, the Yankees have the edge as well. Severino has pitched well since his promotion while Wisler has hit a road block. Compare the bullpens, and it clinches things, the Yankees have Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances in the back while the Braves have a dismal 4.26 bullpen ERA.
