New York Yankees at Los Angeles Angels betting odds on ESPN Wednesday Night Baseball

It's getaway day in Tinseltown, and that could be great news for the strong pitching of the Los Angeles Angels (39-37 SU, -1.53 Units) against the New York Yankees (41-35 SU, -1.09 Units).

ODDS ANALYSIS

The Yankees have actually been underdogs in five of the last six games in this series with the Halos, and they'll very likely add to that in all three games here in Anaheim.

However, New York has also won five consecutive games against Anaheim dating back to last season. In that stretch, the Bronx Bombers have picked up 5.56 units for their bettors. Keep in mind as well that the Yankees enter this series having won three of their last four series, though you wouldn't know it considering the fact that the exception was losing two out of three to the Phillies, including losing games as -275 and -280 favorites.

PITCHING MATCHUP

Matt Shoemaker was given a couple extra days off before his last start, and it surely paid off. He allowed just two runs in six innings against the Mariners, and though he was hung with the loss in a 3-1 game, it was his best start in quite some time. Remember that heading into this start, Shoemaker was just 4-6 with a 5.03 ERA.

Shoemaker will go against Adam Warren on Wednesday night. Warren has transitioned from a long reliever last year to a starter this season, and he has proven that he can basically cover the distance and throw 100+ pitches.

The righty is only 5-5 with a 3.59 ERA, but he hasn't allowed more than three runs in any start since May 3.

QUOTE TO NOTE

"He's been working on a couple of things with Butch (pitching coach Mike Butcher), and so we wanted to give him time to hopefully work and find a couple of things, and so we're going to push him back to Friday, and that opened up a spot today for Andrew (Heaney)." – Angels manager Mike Scioscia on why Shoemaker was pushed back two days from his last start

SITUATIONAL BETTING

Andrew Miller remains out for the Yankees, but that isn't slowing them down at the back ends of games.

Dellin Betances has been flat out awesome, going 5-for-5 in save chances with just one dud of a game; a four-run outing against the Phillies in which he plunked two batters.

Still, Betances has struck out a total of 13 batters in just nine innings since taking over as the closer, and he has 62 Ks in 38.1 innings. Take out that one bad outing against Philly, and he would have a 0.24 ERA.

PROP TALK

History will tell you that Mike Trout is going to be boom or bust in this series. He has three homers over the course of 33 at bats versus the Yanks the last two seasons, but those are his only three hits. Warren has no real history against Trout, though it should be noted that the young phenom has only left the yard once in his last 15 games.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

Every now and again, a team just can't get past another team, and the Halos seem to have that problem with the Yankees.

New York dominated the three games played in the Bronx earlier this month, and it did so by crushing all three starters it ran up against. Shoemaker wasn't one of those, but we aren't confident that he has his problems worked out quite yet.
