The last time the Los Angeles Dodgers (37-29 SU, -4.28 Units) and the San Francisco Giants (35-32 SU, -0.55 Units) squared off, the Dodgers were shut out in all three games which they played and were outscored 10-0. LA will be seeking some minor revenge on Sunday Night Baseball this weekend.
ODDS ANALYSIS
The Giants were actually underdogs in all three of those games played at AT&T Park last month, all of which they made look relatively easy. That's now 14 straight games in this series in which the Dodgers have been favored, including all nine this year. Sunday's game won’t be the exception in all likelihood.
PITCHING MATCHUP
Tim Lincecum used to be one of the most respected pitchers in baseball, but at this point, even though he is 7-3 with a 3.31 ERA, he still isn't quite getting that same level of respect that he used to get.
"The Freak" was actually a +121 underdog the last time these two teams met in May, and he pitched against Brett Anderson in that game as well.
Since the start of May, Lincecum has posted a 3.33 ERA and 6-1 record.
Anderson has a similar ERA to Lincecum at 3.43, but his record of 2-4 really doesn't indicate that good fortune.
The lefty hasn't pitched well against the Giants this year, allowing six runs in 11 innings against them, though the team is a level 1-1 in those outings which he has pitched versus LA's arch rivals.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"Let's not freak out here. It is what it is. We already started the year not the way we wanted it to. The world is not ending around us. Keep plugging along." – Giants manager Bruce Bochy following a 2-0 loss to the Mariners on Wednesday, the sixth San Fran loss in its last seven games
SITUATIONAL BETTING
The Giants bullpen got the day off on Wednesday when Madison Bumgarner was on the mound, and that was a welcome switch for a unit which had to throw at least three innings in each of the prior four games.
The usage is really taking its toll on the Giants. The team has thrown 82.1 innings in the last month, going 0-2 with a 3.50 ERA in that span.
PROP TALK
Where has your power gone, Adrian Gonzalez? You have to go all the way back to June 2 to find the last time that A-Gon went yard, and his last homer at home was on May 26, 10 games ago.
Lately, Gonzalez has struggled too, going just 3-for-22 in his last five games entering Thursday night. He's not a man to bet on right now, though we know that he could get hot at any given moment.
ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION
The Giants have just seemed to have the Dodgers' number this year, and with Lincecum on the mound, we really expect some good things again out of San Fran.
The MLB odds will clearly be every bit as good as well. Los Angeles is used to being a -150 or greater favorite at home, and if the last game between these two with this pitching matchup together, you can expect to see a -170 or so betting line.
That's just far too high in our opinion. We'll get our "Freak" on in LA on Sunday Night Baseball.
