ODDS ANALYSIS

The Detroit Tigers have turned Safeco Field into their own launching pad banging out four home runs Tuesday night for the second straight game. The barrage of long balls helped Detroit keep its streak of cashing the over alive, which has now reached an incredible 18 consecutive games.

The last time the Tigers played below the scoreline was back on June 16. Anibal Sanchez started three times during the current over streak with the Tigers winning all three while producing 25 runs of support. Detroit won each of Sanchez’s last five starts scoring a total of 37 runs in those games.

Seattle won for the fifth time in eight games with Tuesday’s 7-6 extra-inning, walk-off win. The Mariners scored 35 times during the run, nearly a full run better than their season average, despite getting shutout twice. The M’s continue to struggle at Safeco Field, where they are 18-24 overall, down 13.09 units.

PITCHING MATCHUP

Anibal Sanchez (7-7, 4.65 ERA) flirted with a no-hitter on Friday, tossing 7.1 innings before allowing his first hit. He ended up surrendering four runs on three hits to get the win and has now won each of his last four decisions. He’s endured an up-and-down season mixing outstanding starts with six outings in which he’s allowed multiple home runs.

Sanchez is 2-3 with a 4.15 ERA in five road starts this season and looks for his first decision in two career outings against Seattle. Not known as a strikeout pitcher, Sanchez fanned 10 Mariners over 6.1 innings in his last start against them on Sept. 17, 2013.

J.A. Happ (4-5, 3.93 ERA) ended a streak of nine straight starts without a win with a 9-5 victory at Oakland on Friday when he gave up three runs and eight hits over six innings. That run support was welcomed by Happ, who received just nine runs from his mates in his previous six starts.

Happ sports a fancy 2.08 ERA over 43.1 innings in seven starts at Safeco Field this season and has allowed 11 hits and four earned in 15.2 innings across three games (two starts) against Detroit.

QUOTE TO NOTE

“I can’t eat the same way I did. It’s hard to deal with, especially being the first time this has happened to me. Sometimes I eat only once a day before playing, because I feel full. And you just don’t have the same energy. Sometimes I play without any strength or energy, but you have to play, give the best of yourself.” – Seattle’s Robinson Cano on playing with a stomach ailment.

LIVE BETTING or SITUATIONAL BETTING

Robinson Cano finished fifth in the American League MVP voting last season, his first with the Mariners, but he’s played nowhere close to that level this season. And now we know part of the reason why. In a recent interview, Cano said he dealt with stomach discomfort the last two months of last season and in October was diagnosed with a parasite, which was treated with antibiotics but left him with extreme acid reflux that has bothered him ever since. “It still affects me,” he said during the interview. He hadn’t previously mentioned the issue because he doesn’t want to sound like he’s making excuses, but he said there’s no question there has been a trickle-down effect on the field.

PROP TALK

It’s hard to believe Safeco Field can be a home run hitters park, but the Tigers and M’s have turned it into just that by launching 12 combined homers in the first two games of the series. The Tigers made the park small blasting eight homers in the two games with Yoenis Cespedes and Nick Castellanos connecting in each game. But it’s the Mariners who may have the edge facing Anibal Sanchez, who’s surrendered 18 homers in 112.1 innings this year. Nelson Cruz has taken Sanchez deep once in five career at-bats and Seth Smith has homered twice in 17 career ABs against the Tigers righty.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

Even without Miguel Cabrera in the lineup the Tigers are smacking the ball around the yard, unfortunately it hasn’t resulted in many wins. The bats will be tested Wednesday against Seattle starter J.A. Happ, who’s enjoyed plenty of success against Detroit in his limited amount of work. But the Tigers are a hot offensive club right now and Happ isn’t the shutdown starter to silence their bats. Anibal Sanchez has been good enough to collect four wins in his last five starts and the Tigers have supported him with 37 runs over that span.
