The Orioles look to get back in the AL East race taking on the Yankees in the series finale matinee. New York tries to extend its lead in the division after winning the last four games started by Masahiro Tanaka.

ODDS ANALYSIS

Right-handed pitching continues to be a problem for the Baltimore Orioles. Not theirs, though starters Chris Tillman, Bud Norris and Miguel Gonzalez have had their difficulties. Rather opponent righty starters. The O’s fell to 1-8 in their last nine games when the opposition starts a right-hander following Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to the Yankees, who trotted righty Nathan Eovaldi to the hill. Eovaldi didn’t get the decision but he did limit the Orioles to four hits over 5.2 innings. The Yankees will send Masahiro Tanaka, their third straight right-handed starter, to the mound in the series finale. The Yanks have won each of Tanaka’s last four starts and are 9-3 overall when he takes the hill this season.

PITCHING MATCHUP

Ubaldo Jiménez (7-5, 3.29 ERA) is coming off his worst start of the season Friday night when the righty gave up seven earned runs, including three homers over 4.2 innings at Detroit. The three homers allowed matched the total from his previous seven starts and raised his season total to 11.

Jiménez lasted five innings and picked up the win giving up three runs with six strikeouts in an 11-3 home victory over the Yanks on June 12. He’s 2-2 with a 4.13 ERA over five career starts at Yankee Stadium.

Masahiro Tanaka (6-3, 3.65 ERA) got the win his last time out, allowing three runs in seven innings with seven strikeouts Friday against Seattle. He allowed a pair of home runs to account for the only Seattle runs in the 4-3 win. It was Tanaka’s third straight quality start, but he continues to be plagued by the long ball, allowing 10 homers over his last seven starts.

Tanaka will face the O’s for the first time this season and looks for his first career win against them. He’s 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA in two previous starts.

QUOTE TO NOTE

“With how good he has been off of left-handers, you have to find a way to get him in the lineup. I would think that against every lefty we face this year moving forward – and it’s been that way so far – that he’s probably going to be in there, unless something changes.” – Yankees manager Joe Girardi on using outfield Chris Young in the lineup.

LIVE BETTING or SITUATIONAL BETTING

With each team possessing a top closer and set up man, the Orioles and Yankees are both very good at shortening the game. The Yanks used that routine to perfection in Monday’s win. After a solid 5.2 innings from starter Nathan Eovaldi, New York took the lead in the bottom of the sixth and turned the game over to their pen. Justin Wilson tossed a scoreless inning before the shutdown duo of Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller went to work. Betances, who owns a 1.43 ERA and 0.83 WHIP tossed 1.1 frames with a pair of strikeouts for his 15th hold and Miller closed it out with his 21st save in as many chances. The O’s have a solid pair in the back end with Zach Britton, who owns a 1.67 ERA, and is 23 for 24 in save chances. Darren O’Day is the primary setup man with seven holds and a 1.04 ERA while going 5-0.

PROP TALK

The Yankees got Carlos Beltran back in the lineup after a lengthy stay on the disabled list and he’ll be in the lineup against Ubaldo Jiménez. Beltran has a good history against the O’s ace, going 7 for 18 (.389) with a pair of home runs and a 1.310 OPS against him during his career. Beltran should be well rested after missing nearly three weeks with an oblique strain then sitting Monday’s opener against lefty Wei-Yin Chen. After a horrible April where he hit .162, Beltran has been good since, batting .301.

ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION

Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka hasn’t been the overpowering pitcher he was last season, but he’s been good this month, putting those rumors about his elbow that started following a pair of horrible outings behind him. The Yankees have supported Tanaka with 26 runs over his last four starts while winning them all and face a hurler in Ubaldo Jiménez they’ve terrorized. The O’s haven’t been good on the road and their struggles continue.
