The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are squarely on the bubble of the NCAA Tournament, with their performance in the ACC Tournament set to determine their fate. They figure to be on the outside looking in if they can’t defeat the Boston College Eagles in the first round of the conference tournament this week.
Wake Forest knows how much is on the line and will be favored. The Demon Deacons have won three straight games down the stretch, including a crucial upset of then-No. 8 Louisville, and will aim to keep it rolling to punch their March Madness ticket.
Boston College has struggled badly in ACC play and is on a long losing streak entering this one. The Eagles will be done for the season when the conference tournament ends, so their best hope is to play spoiler in this one.

Wake Forest is 18-12 straight up and 17-13 against the spread. The Demon Deacons have played in three neutral site games this season and have covered in two of them. Wake Forest has gone 9-5 against the spread as the favorite this season.
Boston College is 9-22 straight up and 14-15 against the spread. The Eagles are 1-2 against the spread in neutral site games. They have been the underdog in 25 games this season, covering in 12 of those contests. Boston College has only been the favorite four times this year.
Previous Meetings
The Demon Deacons and Eagles played twice in the regular season, and Wake Forest won them both. The first matchup came in early January at Wake Forest. Boston College led at the half but the Demon Deacons used a big push after intermission for a 79-66 victory.
John Collins led the way in that one, scoring 17 points and adding seven rebounds for Wake Forest. Boston College’s Jerome Robinson had a game-high 20 points.
The rematch at Boston College was closer. The Demon Deacons used a late 14-0 run to squeak out an 85-80 victory. Collins was great in that game, scoring 26 points and shooting 9-of-14 from the field.
Jordan Chatman had 22 points for the Eagles in that one. Wake Forest shot a blistering 52.9 percent from three-point range in the game, and that was ultimately the difference.
Key Stat
14. That’s the number of losses in a row for Boston College, which started ACC play 2-2 but fell off a cliff after that. The Eagles have come close to some wins during that span, most notable just missing out on a win over Miami by a score of 78-77.
Boston College, though, has not competed very well of late. The Eagles have lost four consecutive games by 14 points or more and it has to be tough mentally to lose so many games in a row.
Boston College is far under .500 because of its struggles in ACC play and will be wrapping up an underwhelming season soon. The Eagles are hoping their year doesn’t end with 15 consecutive losses, but it seems likely.
Free College Basketball ATS Picks
The first two games between these two teams have been competitive, so it’s not a given that Wake Forest comes away with the win. However, the Demon Deacons are the better team, and, just as importantly, have everything to play for with their March Madness future in the balance.
Look for an inspired performance from Wake Forest. If the Eagles fall behind early it could be tough for them to show enough resilience to make this a game. The Demon Deacons have more talent and should be able to pull away.
College Basketball Odds: Wake Forest 79, Boston College 70
