College Basketball Odds - Connecticut Huskies at Georgetown Hoyas Game Preview

Connecticut-at-Georgetown-bm

Connecticut has won two national championships in the past four years but is far below .500 right now and is in serious danger of missing the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. The Huskies could be underdogs even though they have been better than Georgetown in recent years.

Both teams enter losers of four of their past five games, which is hard to fathom for these two programs.

This war on the floor will go down Saturday, January 14, 2017, at 12 p.m. ET at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. The game will be televised live on Fox.

We'll have NCAA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for this and every game on the college basketball Saturday schedule.

Georgetown is 9-8 straight up and 5-10 against the spread. The Hoyas have not done very well at home, covering only twice in eight attempts. Georgetown is 3-4 against the spread as the favorite on the season.

Connecticut is 6-9 straight up and only 3-9 against the spread. The Huskies have played five games on the road this season and covered in only one of them. They have gone 2-5 against the spread as the underdog.

Key Stat

Nine. That’s how many points separate Connecticut from being an nine-win team compared to a current six-win team. In the Huskies’ recent four-game skid, two of those losses were in overtime, each by just three points.

The close losses are recorded the same way as the blowout losses in the record book, but they also speak to the unfortunate luck of this Connecticut team. In the 70-67 overtime loss to Auburn on December 23rd, the Huskies kept pace with the Tigers throughout the length of the contest but just could not get it done in the final seconds.

The team has lost a total of four games by four points or less this season against opponents like Northeastern, Tulsa and Ohio State.

Player to Watch

Rodney Pryor – The senior guard is averaging 18.2 points a game for Georgetown and leads the team in scoring. Pryor is also averaging 5.1 rebounds a game.

Pryor was held to zero points and three rebounds in the Hoyas’ 85-76 overtime loss to No. 18 Butler on January 7th. He had a much better showing against St. John’s on January 9th, finishing with 13 points and eight rebounds in the 83-55 win.

Pryor started the year on a high note, scoring a season-high 32 points against USC Upstate and also put up 30 points against Coppin State on November 30th. He is averaging just 9.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in the last three games, however, and will be looking to improve upon those number this weekend against Connecticut.

Connecticut hasn’t missed the postseason for a long time but is not playing well enough to pick up a berth anywhere. The Huskies would love to turn it around in this one but it won’t be easy to do on the road.

Georgetown has a better path to the NCAA men’s basketball tournament but must reel off several wins in a row. A game against UConn usually isn’t conducive to that, but this isn’t a normal Huskies team.

While this game has lost some luster because of the struggles, it’s a key one for the Hoyas. They should be able to capture this home win but they have three games against ranked foes upcoming that will likely seal their fate.

Georgetown should win this one but it won’t mean a ton in the long run.

College Basketball Odds: Georgetown 82, Connecticut 77
