College Basketball Odds - Georgia Southern Eagles at Duke Blue Devils Game Preview

We've only got a couple weeks left until the games really start to count in conference play in college hoops. The Duke Blue Devils have a lot of experience in games against teams which aren't anywhere near their caliber. They've got the Georgia Southern Panthers on Tuesday night in a game which is more about keeping the Cameron Crazies happy than anything else.

HOW THE GEORGIA SOUTHERN EAGLES CAN COVER THE SPREAD

It's really tough to think that a team which was beaten 76-67 at Savannah State has any chance of slowing down the Blue Devils. The good news about Georgia Southern is that it can score some points and get up and down the court in a hurry. However, a team which shoots 41.8 percent from the field shouldn't average 85.0 points per game.

The Eagles are going to have to shoot the dickens out of the rock in this game, and we're not all that sure they're capable of doing so. There aren't any phenomenal three-point shooters on this roster, and no one is going to knock down five threes in the game.

However, Tookie Brown is amongst three double-digit point scorers who all could be a thorn in Duke's side.

HOW THE DUKE BLUE DEVILS CAN COVER THE SPREAD

We say this time and time again in games like this. Duke just has to be Duke.

The Blue Devils were actually never covering against Buffalo in their last game, but they won by 23, and a similar effort in this game will probably result in a 30+ point victory.

Duke hasn't really hit the throttle on full blast this year, but we know there have been so many examples of short stretches of games where this club looks unbeatable. It's a matter of when the 12-0 run is coming.

There are a lot of givens with Duke. Grayson Allen is going to likely score 20+ points in this one, while Amile Jefferson is pretty much assured to at least come close to accruing a double-double. These factors alone won't be enough to cover a spread like this against a team like Georgia Southern.

Brandon Ingram, Matt Jones, Luke Kennard and others are all going to have to have big scoring games to cover this huge spread.

ANALYSIS AND ODDS PREDICTION

We hate laying more than a couple dozen points no matter what the situation is in college basketball, but this matchup just doesn't seem to bode well for the visiting Eagles. They're going to try to run with Duke, and that just isn't going to work. The Blue Devils are far too athletic to be outrun by a team from the Sun Belt.

Georgia Southern just doesn't shoot three-pointers well enough to provide the great equalizer against a big time team on the road.

If the Eagles are covering this spread, they're going to do so only because they're getting so many points. They aren't going to warrant covering this game in all likelihood, knowing that Duke never takes it foot off of the gas pedal, even if it's the B-team on the court for the last 10+ minutes of the game.
