College Basketball Odds - Gonzaga at St. Mary’s Game Preview

2017-NCAAB-Gonzaga-at-Saint-Marys-(ESPN2)-Betting-Lines

Can the Gonzaga Bulldogs end the season and enter March Madness undefeated? The Zags face their biggest remaining regular season test on Saturday night when they travel to the Bay Area to take on the Saint Mary’s Gaels. Saint Mary’s has only lost twice this season, once already to Gonzaga, and will be looking to gain a split of the West Coast Conference title with a win in this one. If Gonzaga emerges victorious in this one, it will be odds-on to enter the NCAA Tournament with an unblemished record.

This war on the floor will go down on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 8:15 p.m. ET at McKeon Pavilion. The game will be broadcast on ESPN. We will have NCAA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for this and every game on the college basketball Saturday schedule.

This may be the best team we have ever seen in Spokane. Gonzaga has the talent and the resume of a powerhouse and can’t be called a mid-major this year. The Bulldogs have dazzled against the spread too with a remarkable 17-4-1 ATS record, even with all games against conference opponents not named Saint Mary’s lined in the double digits.

Saint Mary’s is coming off of an ugly win against Portland on Thursday night. The Gaels were hefty 24-point favorites, but could only manage 51 points against one of the worst teams in the West Coast Conference. It was a dreadful performance and perhaps indicative of them looking ahead to the Zags.

Matchup to Watch

The Gaels have one of the top defenses in the country, but it is going to be testing by Gonzaga’s offense. Saint Mary’s has held opponents to just 55.9 PPG on the season and incredibly have given up just 68 points combined in its last two games. Hustle is the name of the game with this unit as it is among the Top 10 in opponent three-point percentage and rebounds allowed per game.

Gonzaga will give the Gaels all they can handle. The Zags have been able to score on pretty much anyone they have faced this season and have scored at least 73 points against every WCC opponent. This is one of the best shooting teams in the nation with five of their eight rotation players hitting 50 percent of their shots or more, and three of those eclipsing the 60 percent mark.

Last Meeting

These teams met in Spokane a month ago and Gonzaga drilled Saint Mary’s 79-56. The Bulldogs were able to consistently exploit the Gaels’ defense surprisingly, hitting almost 65 percent of their field goals on the night in the victory.

Conversely, the Gaels had a pretty poor night shooting. St. Mary’s is never a team that is going to impress you with its offense, but it was particularly bad in this game. The Gaels were held under 40 percent from the floor and although they grabbed 11 offensive rebounds they just couldn’t convert on a lot of those second chances.

This Gonzaga team is amazingly talented from top to bottom. Landing Nigel Williams-Goss from Washington was a coup and he has been very good so far and Przemek Karnowski has shined in his fifth season in Spokane. The Bulldogs have largely avoided injury and been dominant in every aspect of the game except free throw shooting. Karnowski and Johnathan Williams have each had woes at the foul line and need to improve there.

Gonzaga is going to be a favorite in this game without question, but might not be that big of one. The Gaels will pretty unlucky the last time these two teams met, however they are also coming off of an awful performance. We’re going to chalk that up to looking ahead to this game and while we think St. Mary’s will cover, we won’t call for the outright upset.

College Basketball Odds: Gonzaga 77, St. Mary’s 74
