College Basketball Odds - Kansas at Nebraska Game Preview

Kansas-at-Nebraska-(FS1)

Although the Kansas Jayhawks and the Nebraska Cornhuskers are no longer conference rivals, the rivalry between these two schools can still get plenty fierce. Unfortunately for Nebraska, this has always been a rather one-sided rivalry. Kansas has won the vast majority of contests between the two schools, especially in the last two decades. The Jayhawks have lost two in a row heading into this one though and that has to give the Cornhuskers some hope heading into this contest.

This war on the floor will go down Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 8 p.m. ET at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska. The game will be televised live on ESPN2. We'll have NCAA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for this and every game on the college basketball Saturday schedule.

Kansas came into the season as one of the most hyped teams in the country. The Jayhawks were seen as one of a handful teams with a legitimate chance to win it all and started the year strong. They picked up wins over teams like Kentucky and Syracuse and were 5-1 ATS in their first seven. However, lately things have not gone so well for Kansas. The Jayhawks lost to both Washington and Arizona State as a double-digit favorite.

The Cornhuskers picked up an impressive win when they knocked off Minnesota, but this team has struggled to manage a tough slate. Nebraska is 7-4 and has consistently struggled against the best teams on their slate. The Huskers have won and covered each of their last five home games though.

Last Meeting

Nebraska couldn’t buy a bucket from the floor the last time these teams met. The Cornhuskers hit just 39.1 percent of their shots from the field and no one could score outside of Ed Morrow and Tai Webster. Everyone else combined to go 11-39 from the floor for Nebraska.

Meanwhile, Kansas was unstoppable from the floor. Every member of the team that played at least five minutes hit 50 percent or better against the Huskers. As a whole, the Jayhawks sunk almost 60 percent of their field goals against Nebraska in this game.

The only reason the final score was only a 17-point loss was each team’s performance at the line. Nebraska hit 83.3 percent from the free throw line, while Kansas sank just 56 percent of its chances.

Key Stats

Kansas has continued to shoot the lights out, even this year. The Jayhawks are averaging 82.1 PPG and have been able to sink shots against most defenses they have gone up against. Kansas is hitting 52 percent from the floor this year and all five starters are averaging at least 12 PPG.

Udoka Azubuike has been fantastic and continues to improve his low post game. The seven-foot Nigerian looks to have raised his level of play and is hitting an absurd 78.4 percent of his field goals this season. He has struggled for the line and gets in foul trouble, but he is tough to guard off the block.

The other thing that makes Kansas is special is that aside from Azubuike, everyone can shoot the three. The other four starters are all hitting at least 40 percent from the three-point line and that makes this team dangerous.

Kansas is going to be a double-digit favorite yet again here. The Cornhuskers have not been that good this season and the Jayhawks can’t afford to lose three in a row at this point.

This one could get ugly even though the game is in Lincoln. Kansas is simply more talented and the last time that Nebraska played a team this good, it got hammered. Michigan State crushed Nebraska by 29 points and the Huskers couldn’t do much against the Spartans size. Look for Kansas to roll here.
