The Marquette Golden Eagles are on the NCAA men’s basketball tournament bubble as the regular season draws to a close, and every win is critical down the stretch. They have a big game coming up this week against the Georgetown Hoyas.
Georgetown has struggled this season but does get this game at home, so it figures to be competitive. The Golden Eagles have been up and down, showing the ability to beat No. 1 Villanova but also losing to a handful of unranked teams.
Marquette has some talent but needs to turn it on down the stretch to secure a March Madness berth, and this game will be a huge part of that.

Markus Howard -- The Marquette freshman was the leading scorer the first time these two teams faced off on December 28th, finishing with 23 points including five three-pointers in the Golden Eagles’ 76-66 win over Georgetown.
The performance, then a season and career-high, has been followed by three more games where Howard has finished with 20 points or more, including his new career-high of 26 points against No. 13 Butler on January 6th.
Howard had 19 points and five three pointers in the rematch against Butler on Tuesday. He is averaging 12.3 points per game, shooting 52 percent from the three-point line this season.
The young player has averaged 14.3 points per game in the 11 contests since these two teams met back in December. He will be looking to duplicate that kind of performance against the Hoyas this weekend.
Howard is the youngest player in the conference and it is clear he is improving as he gets more experience at the college level.

0-2. That’s Georgetown's record over the last two games and the Hoyas will be trying to avoid the continuation of that streak this week. Georgetown last a close one in overtime to Seton Hall on February 4th before falling 75-64 to No. 1 Villanova on February 7th.
The current losing streak could serve as some extra motivation and Georgetown has shown it has what it takes to take on tough teams. Last month, after losing back-to-back games to Providence and No. 22 Xavier, the Hoyas ignited on a three-game winning streak that included two impressive upsets over No. 16 Creighton and No. 11 Butler.
The Hoyas scored 85 point in the win over Butler, a team Marquette has lost to twice this season. Butler is a team that Georgetown has played tough this year, pushing the first matchup in January to overtime before eventually falling 85-76.
