College Basketball Odds - No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks at Kansas State Wildcats Game Preview

Kansas is the better team but must go on the road for this one, and check often to see if any of the players are suspended. Jayhawks Lagerald Vick is under investigation for felony vandalism while star guard Josh Jackson is a person of interest in the case.

Police are also investigating an alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl at an on-campus dorm in which the basketball team lives in. Carlton Bragg has been suspended indefinitely after being charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kansas State is a solid team, and with everything going on with Kansas, may be able to win this game.

Kansas is 19-2 straight up and 7-12 against the spread. The Jayhawks have played in six true road games and have failed to cover in four of them. Kansas will likely still be the favorite. It is 5-11 against the spread in that role this season.

Kansas State is 15-6 straight up and 10-6-1 against the spread. The Wildcats have played in seven home games and are 4-2-1 against the spread. Kansas State has gone 4-1 against the spread as the underdog on the year.

Scheduling Situation

Kansas State is entering its toughest stretch to date this week, facing off in rematches against No. 3 Baylor and No. 7 West Virginia in addition to the game against Kansas on Monday. The Wildcats lost all three games to these teams the first time around, keeping it tight with both Kansas and West Virginia.

Kansas State enters this week on a three-game losing streak as well, and has gone 4-6 in the last ten games. Most recently, the Wildcats fell 86-80 in overtime to TCU on February 1st.

The last thing Wildcats want is to increase their current losing streak, but beating any one of this week’s opponents is a feat in and of itself and facing all three in a row is extremely tough. Kansas State has proven, however, it can hang with the nation’s top squads so the Wildcats are capable of an upset.

Key Stat

Two. That’s how many points Kansas defeated Kansas State by in the first meeting between these two teams on January 3rd and the ending to that one had no shortage of drama. The game was tied at 88 all before Kansas junior guard Svi Mykhailiuk went the length of court on the inbound and drove in for the game-winning, buzzer-beating layup.

The replay seemed to show what the officials missed, however – a travel by Mykhailiuk that would have negated the basket and sent the game to overtime. The Wildcats will no doubt be playing with a little extra motivation this week in the rematch.

The win last month marked the fourth straight for the Jayhawks over rival Kansas State. Kansas leads the rivalry all-time by nearly 100 games, 192-93.

Kansas State nearly won on the road and Kansas is not dealing with the off-court troubles, so many probably believe this is setting up for a Wildcats victory. However, provided the Jayhawks have their key players, the first matchup doesn’t necessarily mean Kansas State has the edge.

Kansas is one of the best teams in college basketball and will be able to go on the road against a strong opponent and come away with the victory.

College Basketball Odds: Kansas 82, Kansas State 77
