College Basketball Odds - Oregon at California Game Preview

The Oregon Ducks are flying high in the PAC-12 but have had their share of road woes this year. All four of Oregon’s losses came away from Eugene and this team has proven vulnerable outside of the state. They will travel down I-5 on Wednesday night to take on a team that is pretty squarely on the bubble, the California Golden Bears. Most bracketologists currently have Cal in the field, but a win over Oregon would erase any doubt.

This war on the floor will go down Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 9 p.m. ET at Haas Pavilion. The game will be televised live on ESPN2. We will have NCAA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for this and every game on the college basketball Wednesday schedule.

Oregon has now covered five in a row and has looked extremely dominant during that stretch, save the loss to the Bruins in UCLA. The Ducks pantsed Colorado, Utah, and Arizona by a combined 73 points and got a nice road win over USC as well. Perhaps surprisingly, the under has been a great play on the road for Oregon, with the under holding a record of 5-2.

California’s at-large hopes took a decent hit when the Golden Bears couldn’t knock off rival Stanford on Friday. The loss was the second in a row for Cal and moved them to 9-5 in conference play. Cal is still considered in the tournament at this point, but are just barely in.

Last Meeting

Defense was the catalyst behind Oregon’s win over Cal when these teams met a month ago. Oregon held Cal’s two leading scorers, Ivan Rabb and Jabari Bird, to horrible nights from the floor with the duo combining to finish just 9 of 29 from the floor. Rabb and Bird are integral to Cal’s success and shutting them down gave the Ducks the ability to coast.

The Ducks’ defense hounded Cal throughout the game and provided a ton of pressure. That led to Cal committing 20 turnovers on the evening and coupling that with shooting less than 40 percent is almost impossible to overcome.

Meanwhile, Oregon created opportunity after opportunity in this game. The depth of the Ducks was on full display as they didn’t get much from either Dillon Brooks or Chris Boucher, yet still managed to cover handily.

Player to Watch

Chris Boucher has been other worldly this season and carried the team while Brooks slowly got back into form. Boucher is one of the fiercest shot blockers in all of college basketball and is an animal at predicting the rim. His 2.7 blocks per game are pretty staggering and limited the effectiveness of an opposition big man.

Boucher hasn’t been one of those one-dimensional players either, scoring in addition to highlighting other facets of his game. He is hitting almost 53 percent of his shots from the floor and is cleaning up the glass too. The only issues have been his free throw shooting and that could be a factor once the NCAA Tournament picks up.

The Bears have had some trouble filling their fifth spot this year. They have a solid corps of young players, but have still struggled with who they can reliably fill the spot with. This Cal team may not be as dangerous as last year’s addition, but it can still knock off Oregon, especially in Berkeley.

This spread could be in the double-digits with how popular Oregon has been to wager on, but high single digits seems more likely. The Ducks were a 9.5-point favorite in their previous game with the Bears, but Oregon hadn’t proved itself yet in conference play. Still, the Ducks don’t play that great away from Oregon and that’s why Cal will be able to get the cover.
