College Basketball Odds - Seton Hall vs. Villanova Game Preview

2017-Big-East-Semi-1-(FS1)-Seton-Hall-vs-Villanova-Betting-Online

The defending national champion and No. 1 seeded Villanova Wildcats will be out for a bit of retribution on Friday night when they take on the No. 5 seed Seton Hall Pirates in the semifinals of the Big East Tournament. The Pirates ousted the Wildcats in the title game last season to secure the program’s first championship since 1993. Watching the Hall cut down the nets will most definitely be fresh on the minds of Josh Hart and company, but that still might not be enough to cover what’s sure to be an inflated spread.

This war on the floor will go down Monday, March 10, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. ET at the Madison Square Garden. The game will be televised live on FS1. We'll have NCAA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for this and every game on Friday’s college basketball schedule.

The Pirates 82-76 outright win and cover as 2.5 point underdogs to Marquette yesterday afternoon moved Kevin Willard’s squad to a very impressive 5-2 straight up but bankroll killing 2-4-1 against the spread tallies. They lost to both Stanford and Florida, but picked up wins against Quinnipiac, Hawaii, California, South Carolina, and the Golden Eagles. Since getting trounced by Nova for the second time this season, Seton Hall has gone on to win each of its last five games and scored a solid 70-64 outright win at Hinkle Fieldhouse against Butler.

Wow! Seriously, that’s all you can say about what the defending champs did to the Johnnies in the team’s quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday afternoon. They boat raced St. John’s almost immediately getting out to a 52-26 halftime lead and never looked back. When the dust cleared on the whitewashing, Villanova put 108 points on the board and won the game by 41 points. The win was the team’s third straight both straight up and against the spread, and it moved them to an unblemished 6-0 and 3-3 against the spread on neutral courts.

Player to Watch

Angel Delgado – The Pirates big man came a lone assist away from putting forth a triple-double in the team’s quarterfinal win over the Golden Eagles. He went for 12 points, 16 rebounds and 9 assists to tally his thirteenth straight double-double. This guy is the heart and soul of the program, and the team’s success or lack thereof in this matchup will reside solely upon his shoulders. He’ll need to put forth a game like he did in the team’s second skirmish when he went for 19 points and 12 rebounds instead of the first meeting when he failed to tally double digits in either category.

Last Meeting

It doesn’t matter which of the meetings you break down from this season, as they were pretty much carbon copies of one another. Seton Hall got bent over and was taken advantage of; it’s that simple. They fell 76-46 as 13.5 point underdogs in their trip to The Pavilion, and followed it up with a 92-70 dismantling when hosting the rivalry as 6.5 point dogs a month later. The first meeting was more about the Pirates killing themselves with turnovers and shooting poorly from the field. They played better in the second go round, but Nova was simply unconscious from the field in draining 67.3 percent of their shots which included a 12 of 21 effort from downtown.

Villanova has won five of the last six meetings, but had failed to cover the previous three before dominating both matchups this season. This has also been a series dominated by the defenses with the under 7-2 over the last nine tilts.

There’s something to be said about getting hot this time of the year. Seton Hall is most definitely that, but it still ranks out the lesser of these two teams and has gotten its doors blown off in both regular season meetings. Still, linemakers are sure to install the defending champs as gargantuan favorites with bettors likely to sprint to the betting window to back them after what they just did to the Johnnies.

Neither of these teams are all that deep, but the Hall could be catching a break with Mr. do everything Mikal Bridges possibly not playing or feeling the after effects of a stomach virus that only allowed him to get a minute under his belt yesterday afternoon. Should he be forced to miss, it would subtract a key rebounder from Villanova’s equation and allow Delgado to have an easier time of snatching loose caroms. Take the points and run with the Hall!
