College Basketball Odds - Texas AM Aggies at Mississippi State Bulldogs Game Preview

Texas-AM-at-Mississippi-State-bm

Mississippi State is the home team and has the better record, so it could be favored in this one. The Aggies have struggled badly out of the gate in the conference and would love to turn it around with a victory.

If the Bulldogs have a shot at making March Madness, they will need to play well down the stretch, and that includes picking up this one in a winnable home contest.

Mississippi State is 10-4 straight up and 6-5 against the spread on the season. The Bulldogs have played six games at home this season but have not performed very well, covering only two of them. Mississippi State is 5-5 against the spread as the favorite this season, as they have been the team to beat in all but one game on the year.

Texas A&M is 8-6 straight up and 5-7 against the spread. The Aggies have played a pair of true road games and have failed to over in either of them. Texas A&M has not covered in three games as the underdog this season.

Key Stat

1-4. That’s Texas A&M’s recent record. The team is 0-3 heading into this week with its most recent win was against St. Francis on December 21.

To be fair, it hasn’t been an easy stretch for the Aggies. Included in those four losses, were matchups against No. 19 Arizona — a game Texas A&M managed to keep tight — and No. 6 Kentucky.

The team also has recent losses to SEC opponents Tennessee and South Carolina. Texas A&M is currently last in the SEC standings and while the season isn’t over yet, it is trending that way quickly and a turnaround is imperative.

Player to Watch

Quinndary Weatherspoon – The sophomore guard is Mississippi State’s leading scorer, averaging 17.7 points a game. After averaging 12 points a game last year as a freshman, the young player has shown a lot of improvement this season.

Weatherspoon suffered a wrist injury in November that was reported by some sources to be season-ending, but he only ended up missing two games. He scored a season-high 27 points in Mississippi State’s win over Morehead State on December 22nd and put up 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists against UMKC on December 29th.

Since SEC conference play began on January 3rd, however, Weatherspoon has not been putting up the big numbers. He scored seven points in the loss to Alabama and 14 against LSU on January 7th. He will look for a better showing this week against the Aggies.

Texas A&M is not as bad as its record would indicate as it is coming off a tough stretch of games. However, going on the road against Mississippi State is not an easy task.

The Bulldogs aren’t a powerhouse, but they are a solid team on both ends of the court. With Weatherspoon leading the way, Mississippi State should be able to squeak out this victory. However, keep an eye on the spread, as the Aggies could very well cover if they are given enough points. This should end up being a competitive SEC matchup.
