The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners are used to being two of the strongest programs in the Big XII. This season, though, they are both in the conference cellar.
The teams will face off this week as they are simply playing out the string with no chance of making the NCAA men’s basketball tournament unless one has a cinderella run in the conference tournament.
The Longhorns won the first matchup and have a slightly better record but the Sooners are at home in this one and could be slight favorites.
At 9 p.m. ET, tune into CBS for live television coverage of this NCAA basketball game on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma.

Oklahoma is just 8-16 straight up and 9-12-1 against the spread. The Sooners have played in 10 home games on the season but have covered in only three of them. Oklahoma is 3-5 against the spread as the favorite on the season and 6-7-1 against the spread as the underdog.
Texas is 10-15 straight up but actually 14-10 against the spread. The Longhorns have played in eight true road games this season and have fared quite well, covering in six of them. Texas is 4-6 against the spread as the favorite and 9-4 against the spread as the underdog.
Revenge Angle
Texas got the best of Oklahoma the first time these two teams met back on January 23rd, but just barely. With 1.8 seconds to go, Texas guard Andrew Jones hit a deep three-pointer to give the Longhorns a the 84-83 victory in the thriller.
Jones had 16 points off the bench for the Longhorns while teammate Shaquille Cleare had a team-high 23 points. Oklahoma freshman forward Kristian Doolittle, who averages just 8.9 points per game this year, put up a career-high 29 points for the Sooners in the loss.
This week, the matchup moves to Lloyd Noble Center where Oklahoma will be looking to avenge last month’s loss. The Sooners have proven they have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with the Longhorns, but can they beat them this season?
Key Stat
Seven. That’s how many games Oklahoma has lost in a row coming into this matchup. There’s no doubt that the Sooners will be looking to end that streak on Tuesday.
The team’s most recent win was back on January 18th when Oklahoma upset No. 7 West Virginia 89-87 in overtime. Since then, nothing seems to be going the Sooners’ way with their most recent loss coming by 24 points to Iowa State on February 11th.
After starting the season 6-2, Oklahoma has only won two games in the last 16 contests. A win at home would be a welcomed outcome for fans.

The Longhorns have four conference wins this season but all of them have come by four points or less. While Texas has been a little bit better overall, there isn’t much appreciable difference between these teams, as evidenced by their close showdown the first time around.
Both of these teams had higher expectations and have struggled throughout. It’s fair to wonder what kind of motivation is left for the Sooners, who have now lost a bunch in a row and aren’t going to make any sort of postseason tournament.
Even so, this is a game between a pair of programs that know each other well, and Oklahoma’s pride will be on the line. This could be another close clash, but expect the Sooners to end their long losing streak by taking care of business at home.
Oklahoma should also be able to cover the spread in this one.
College Basketball Odds: Oklahoma 81, Texas 77
