The Texas Southern Tigers have been the best team in the SWAC throughout the entire season, and are one step away from securing their bid in the NCAA tournament. The last hurdle will be a victory over the Alcorn State Braves in the conference championship game.

The rematch came at Alcorn State and this one was just as entertaining. Lofton scored 30 points and the game went to overtime until Texas Southern could come away with a 94-88 win.
Alcorn State finished as the No. 2 seed in the SWAC and pushed the Tigers to the limit in each regular season contest, so it surely will feel confident that this one can to its way.
Player to Watch
Lofton -- The best player on the court will be the junior guard for Texas Southern. He is averaging 17.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Lofton used to play for Illinois State and then took a couple of years off before resurfacing with Texas Southern.
He hit 13-of-24 shots from the field in the second game against Alcorn State and will aim to keep it up in this one. Lofton has been the go-to guy throughout the season for the Tigers and should have another big one in this one.

Alcorn State rolled past the Southern Jaguars in its semifinal matchup to set up this third showdown between the teams. The Braves are a formidable foe, as they deftly showed in the first two matchups.
It’s not easy to knock off a tough foe three times in one season, so Texas Southern must be wary of a strong game from the Braves. However, the Tigers are so close to the Big Dance that they won’t be wasting this golden chance.
The best team from the SWAC should be able to take care of business. Texas Southern is the pick to knock off Alcorn State in a result that isn’t as nail-biting as the first two matchups.
