Key Stat

Two. That’s how many wins South Alabama has captured since December 1st. The team’s most recent victory came against Troy on January 2nd and the Jaguars also captured a win over Spring Hill on December 19th, but these last two months have also included a string of losses.

South Alabama Started the season at 5-0, but has gone 2-7 in the last two months. In the team’s most recent matchup on January 9th, the Jaguars fell 84-79 in overtime to Georgia Southern and also recently fell by a point to Georgia State on January 7th.

The recent downturn also included losses to Ole Miss, Samford, Denver and Stenson. The team will look to right the ship against UT-Arlington.

Player to Watch

Kevin Hervey – UT-Arlington’s forward has been red hot lately. The junior put up a season-high 25 points against Texas State on January 7th and also finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds against Appalachian State on January 2nd.

Hervey is leading the team in points this season, averaging 15 points a game in addition to 7.6 rebounds a game. He has not been quite as dominating as he was last season when he averaged 18.1 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per game as a sophomore, but he is certainly playing at a high level.

Hervey has accumulated six double-doubles this season. At 6-foot-9, he is a big threat in the paint and had a season-high 14 rebounds in Mavericks 56-51 win over Bradley on December 16th.

UT-Arlington’s loss to Texas State recently has caused a re-focus, as the team’s best chance of making March Madness is by winning the Sun Belt. The Mavericks are statistically superior across the board compared to South Alabama and have done much better in the conference.

South Alabama’s best chance will be to get a lead early and hope to get the home crowd into it. The Jaguars had a nice start but have not played very well of late and it seems unlikely this is the game to turn it around.

UT-Arlington needs to win games like these down the stretch and it should be able to do so in this one. Keep an eye out on the spread in this one because UT-Arlington may need to win by a decent margin in order to cover even playing on the road.

College Basketball Odds: UT-Arlington 78, South Alabama 64
