College Basketball Odds - VCU Rams at Davidson Wildcats Game Preview

VCU-at-Davidson-Odds26

Is anyone in the A-10 going to be able to slow down the VCU Rams this year? Will Wade's team is on a roll at the moment with 10 straight wins, and they've gone 7-1 ATS in that stretch as well. The Davidson Wildcats have been hit and miss, but you know they're going to be ready for this one at home on Friday night.

HOW THE VCU RAMS CAN COVER THE SPREAD

The Rams are still wreaking a little havoc on the court night in and night out even though Shaka Smart left Richmond for the bright lights of Texas. They're averaging almost 10 steals per game thus far this year and over 12 steals per game in Atlantic 10 play thus far.

Turnovers are turning into quick points, and that's how VCU has scored at least 84 points in five of its last six overall.

Melvin Johnson and JeQuan Lewis have been particularly special of late. Lewis has games of 26 and 29 points under his belt since January 16, while Johnson has just one game all year long in which he didn't tally double figures.

With 71 threes made this year, Johnson is the real spark to this team. Rare is the game that he doesn't hit at least three triples, though here on the road, he and the Rams could run into a few more issues.

The key is going to be running as fast as they can. The Rams have the most athletic team in the Atlantic 10, and when they're running at warp speed on both sides of the court, no one can keep up with them.

HOW THE DAVIDSON WILDCATS CAN COVER THE SPREAD

If the Rams have one particular weakness, it's that they aren't particularly big and don't really defend all that well in the painted area. The problem that Davidson has is that it isn't going to be able to turn this into an inside game unless Peyton Aldridge really takes over. He's averaging 16.3 points per game, and we know that he's entirely capable, but he's not the right size to be a banger in the post at just 6-foot-7.

Instead, this game is all about Jack Gibbs. You hate to put the pressure of winning or losing on just one guy, but Gibbs will carry the torch for sure. He's averaging 24.8 points per game, but he's also a tremendously streaky shooter. We've seen games of 41 and 43 just in the last five weeks, but we also saw him put up just seven against Cal and 11 against Richmond.

Anything less than 20 in this one will be troubling for the home team.

ANALYSIS AND ODDS PREDICTION

This is quietly going to end up being a really good game. We think that Gibbs can give anyone in the nation issues, and outside of a loss to Pitt in which the Wildcats were simply just not physically gifted enough to hang with the Panthers, they've won all of their college basketball games here at home.

We do think there's going to be just enough here for the Rams to come away victorious, but the fact that they're going to be laying points here makes them unappealing. Give us every point we can get. They might all end up being incredibly valuable.
